Default is it ok to run 87 instead of 93?

with the rising gas prices 93 is rough enough. even though the type s requires premium, its not gonna harm the engine or performance running 87 instead is it? i imagine a power loss and less miles.

You can but eventually it WILL harm the engine; you will hear knocking.

you may be able to get away with 89 but the price I saw was 3.95 for that and 4.00 at the Chevron I went to last. so stop being a cheap ***.

I've seen people blow Honda engines by using the cheap gas

Whenever my dad would use my old RL he'd put 87 in. within 1 month it was knocking.

89 was fine tho. its supposed to have 91+

bad thing around here is the 93 doesn't get used as much and it sometimes collects moisture :9 best to use a fuel cleaner at least once a month

I have a k20a3 motor that I will trade you for your type-s mill...it has 9.7 to one compression ratio that lives just fine on 87 sheepdip gas...If you want to run cheep gas, you should not have gotten a type-s.lol

Just use the gas that your car is required to use. your just gonna be damaging your motor in the long run. just dont fill up/ cruise as much.

I weep when i see threads like this....you are questioning Honda, and every other car mfg that makes high comp engine....as to whether you should use the recommended 93 octane fuel??

Sell the car if you don't want to use premium, and get a base model with a low compression engine

TS, this is an excellent deal. Just add $500 on top.

I get 15% commission.

Whats the diffrence between 87 and 93 in your area, like 30 cents? So you will save what, 3 bucks??

What does the owners manual say? Required or recommended? From my understanding premature detonation isn't a nice thing to do to an automobile. Your probably better of using what the manufacturer recommends.

No joke, exactly what I was thinking. Do what I do, I just get $15 worth every time so I am none the wiser. This allows more frequent fill ups but in turn allows for less margin of error. ie filling up your tank when it is really high.
