Questions about Compustar alarm brain
Hey guys.
I have a Compustar alarm on my GSR and It has been giving me problems. I've tried reseting it, ect. but the thing just isn't working correctly. The model is RF-1WG2-AM http://www.compustar.com/products/cs/RF-1WG2-AM.html
Right now, it's stuck in passive mode, and no matter what I do, it won't come out of it. (Yes, I've followed all instructions on how to change the settings
I also am not able to change any settings. (valet mode, chirp/no chirp, ect.)
Someone mentioned that the brain may be on the way out. This is the only thing I can think of now.
Question is, can I buy the brain on ebay, and swap them out, fixing my problem? I know little about installing alarms so I don't want to install a new model/brand. I guess what I am asking, is if I can just get the brain, and swap them out with very little effort, and have a perfecting working alarm again?
Thanks for the replies!

We all have day jobs.
It is possible that the alarm brain is "on it's way out" or it could just be a wiring issue.
The most common problem with alarms/remote starts are wiring, with a grounding issue at the top of the list, it is the first thing I would check, disconnect batt. neg.(-), find alarm ground lead, should be securely mounted to chassis ground, [dash sub frame works].
Remove the ground and clean both contact surfaces and reconnect, making sure it is a good chassis ground point.
Check the other connections while your under there, make sure the main power and ign. power connections are good, should be soldered connections, any type of "quick" connector/connection, [Ttap, Amp, quick disconnect/wrap and tape] will give you problems.
The ground and the two power leads, [constant and switched] all must have "bullet proof" connections or you will have problems.
What year is your GS-R?
The model number you gave is for the remote, I need the model number of the brain, the remote is the same for the alarm, remote start and alarm/remote start combo unit, which one do you have? 94

My car is a 95. This may be a silly question, but where the hell is the brain...? Also, I'll go out and take a picture when it gets light outside, but I noticed there is a wire that looks like it has been cut. Not sure why, or when.
Would bad wiring cause it to be buggy? Because the alarm arms, and disarms correctly, and goes off when it is set off.. I guess I just figured it was the brain, but if you think it could also be wiring, I will gladly check that out.
Wiring, with ground at the top of the list, is to most common problems I see with alarms, in fact I can safely say that probably less then 10% of alarm problems I see are are the alarm itself and are a wiring issue one way or the other.
The alarm bran can be any number of places, I would start by looking up under the dash on drivers side, look for wiring that does not look stock, fallow the ant. lead to the alarm brain, the brain will have a tag on it with a model number.
Pictures work, take a pic of cut wire also. 94

OK so I still couldn't find the brain, but I figured that this is likely the cause of the problem. That wire that I found the other day.. Here are a couple of pictures. I'm guessing it's some kind of ground? Since it's running with the rest of the wires, I'm pretty sure it's to my alarm.
It's attached to a bolt that was connected to the frame of the car. I removed the bolt to take the picture. Maybe to you guys that are used to alarm this is common, but I've never seen a bolt like this.

That is a pin switch, used for hood trigger, obviously it is broken, the wire going to it will be a gray/black, [hood sensing] it supplies a ground to the alarm when hood is opened.
$1 or $2 at any car audio/security shop.
I should not prevent alarm from working, unplug the lead from what is left of bottom of pin switch, set the lead aside making sure it can not touch a ground and try the alarm. 94
