Default big problems with auto to manual swap

car;4dr 89 civic, auto to manual conversion obd1 vtec y8
problem breaking starters and cant crank with the key

so the 1st non cranking problem is new to me. never did a auto to manual conversion.
question: is there specific wiring to get the ign to trigger? acts like if u were to try to start the car without pressing the clutch. is there a safety switch inside of the automatic system some where that i can bypass?

2nd problem. broke 2 starters...its broken where it mounts to then trans..

the trans is a l3 cable trans and we have tried a hydro starter and a automatic starter, both broke or got stuck. what i mean by stuck is the gear in the starter engages but the starter doesn't spin. we are also using the y8 flywheel and clutch

is there a difference between the hydro and cable trans flywheel clutch and trans? what are those differences? thanx for reading

Yes, there is a safety switch.
What (if any) conversion walk through did you use? You can find this info on the internet.
You might be about to find it in the FAQ as well - I tried to look it up for you there, but links are not working for me. Used to be one with a pic of exactly what you need to see where the auto gear selector used to be near the e-brake handle.

Odd issue with the starter.
From what you wrote, to me it sounds like the starter gear is coming out (like it's supposed to) and then it doesn't spin.
Are you pressing the clutch pedal when you try to start?
If you are pressing on the clutch pedal then the tranny is disengaged - takes that out of the equation.
This makes it sound like your engine is seized. Can you rotate the engine manually?

Personally I test fit and mixed up an ED auto, ED manual, and EG manual starter. They all fit and worked fine. I can't imagine the Y8 being too different if any. For it not to be spinning tells me that it is engaging the gear on the flywheel and then jamming. If it didn't make it into the teeth on the gear, it would make the whizzzzing noise as it would spin freely in the air.

i didnt use a write up for the wiring didnt think about that lol

as for the starter i was thinking the flywheels are different because the bell housing is from a 89 and the shaft and gears are 91 si will that make a difference?

Housing won't make a difference. They are interchangeable.

Find out if that engine rotates.

Also got to thinking and 'maybe' the Y8 starter has a different tooth count on the starter gear than the 88~95. That would make it bind on the flywheel.
I don't think that is the case though... I think your engine is seized until you can test it and tell me it rotates!
