ANYONE ON THIS FORUM THAT DRIVE THIS SI ? TINTED TAIL LIGHT ?



HOW DO I GET THE TAIL LIGHT THAT BLACK , IS IT LEGAL (to make it a tech post lol )

 

It's a movie, so I'm going to say it's either spray painted black or maybe wrapped in vinyl and made dirty -- but either way -- no it's not legal. And just no.

 

It looks like the car is suppose to have been burned. Thats probably why....

Actually I think it depends on the state you're in. In Texas the taillights have to be clearly visible when turned on from a certain distance.....I think 1000 ft. And that seems to be the only criteria because there is nothing mentioned about film coverings except for the front headlights.

I've had several police cruisers directly behind me and haven't been pulled over at all...in broad daylight when it's obvious that there's film on the lights.

If you want to get technical, any modification of your headlight or taillights is technically illegal.

 

Incorrect, but close enough that it might as well be true.

You can legally modify them, but you also need them to still be DOT compliant afterward. Unless you can test them yourself, you can't certify them as DOT compliant, making it illegal.

And rear tint on tail lamps is illegal on an 8th gen Civic, in every state, because it covers the federally mandated red reflector and clear backup lamp. Cars that have the reflector and backup lamp some other place that isn't the tail lamp can tint as long as the result still allows enough light of the correct color through.

Doesn't mean that cops enforce this everywhere though. I've had a cop tell me my "clear corners" are legal with an amber bulb, even though they aren't, as the mandated amber side reflector is missing. YMMV.
