B20B or D17?
I have a 2005 Honda Civic lx with a D17 and Im looking for ways to build it up. I also have a 97 CRV with a B20B that im not using. Im just looking for info on whether or not i can or should swap the engine, and what kind of potential im working with. Im new to honda so I apologize if I sound ignorant on the subject, but I am. If anyone could help to point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.
You can't legally swap a '97 CR-V engine into your 2005 Civic. The engine has to be of the same year or newer than your car. You'll need to K-swap.
If you have a manual transmission in your LX, consider the option of installing a turbo kit onto your D17.
Neither option will be cheap. The K-Pro (engine management system) alone will set you back around $1,000.

I have the same problem I have an 04 civic 4 door auto with same motor if I were u u should either just sell ur car for a manual or start saving up because the auto to manual ur gonna have to pay for all the asembly clutch and all other parts and if u rlly want power u should just go k swap or turbo the d17 but the d17 isn't a good boost motor if u wanna stay cheaper n not go all out go k20a3 u will have a k but can upgrade later sorry for going on bout everything but that's wat I'm gonna do or buy a 2000 si lol
Like I said Im just getting started on this and dont know much about Honda. So what kind of money am I looking at spending to k-swap and convert to a manual? Is k20a3 the best upgrade? And could I do it on a 5000 dollar budget? I was going to buy an 08 Si but I would much rather stay with my 05 because I think its just a better looking car. I just want the 196 hp or higher to go along with it.
If you did all the work yourself, used exclusively OEM parts and did the install yourself you could do a k20a3 swap for under $5000. You would not however, be able to do a k20a, k20a2, k24a2, k20z3 or k20z1 swap and those are the engines that are at or above the 196hp mark.
