got a 97 accord for free but not starting, help
car was sitting for like 2 months and the battery died i dont know what the previous problem was to make the car sit my friend never told me,but i got the the battery charged at autozone and now the dash lights turn on and radio works but when i try to start it theres nothing the lights get dim on the dash,i can hear something engaging in position 2 but it doesnt want to crank, and when i put the battery in the alarm stays on could it be the aftermarket alarm not making it start?
its a xpos alarm i think it had the self start,i did but he has no knowledge when it comes to cars, also the gear screen on the dash has a green light around the d4 i was searching on other sites and it said something with a ecu problem?
I would start with the alarm.
The engaging sound you hear when turning the key is probably the fuel pump priming the lines. I'm not sure if that will still work when the ECU isn't, but that's something to look into.

I had a similar problem once. When it would refuse to start, I would get a jump. Then ended up replacing the starter. When the problem persisted, i removed the old alarm in it. But it came back only to find that the problem was a bad ignition switch. Hope this helps.
