looking at putting a z6 complete manifold on my a6, wondering if the hp gain is anything or even worth it. I heard it was but also hearing it isnt worth the money, someone please clear this up and if u have numbers to back it up let me know how much gain is there
If you are replacing the Z6 manifold with an A6 for performance - you are not gonna notice any gains.
Now if you were using a Y8 manifold, you might notice a little gain.
The Z6 manifold design is very similar to the A6. The Y8 manifold on the other hand, is completely redesigned for maximum flow.
It's not worth the money/hassle.

Not much by istelf.
Lets say you had an A6 motor, with the usual Cold Air Intake, 4-2-1 Header, and a full catback exhaust (with a highflow cat). The increase wouldn't be much, but you can feel it - I gave my piece of crap A6 a little bit more umph, just a little bit.
Not very noticeable at all, but it's an increase at least. However, let's say you wanted to do more work on your A6. Like a nice port and polish job, and some higher compression pistons, a more aggressive cam & ECU to match. Then the Y8 manifold would be giving you at least an additional 6 HP, most likely more.
Now that's just a guestimate on my part. The A6 manifold is pretty restrictive, but the A6 motor needs quite a few upgrades in order for it to take real advantage of the better flowing Y8 manifold.
If you're thinking about an engine swap down the road, that isn't a D series - don't go through the hassle of this manifold swap. There are a lot of details that need to be addressed, and it's a pretty tedious swap.

Ahh, but what if your using an a6 manifold on and z6 swap, then switch out to the y8, Im sure the z6 engine would run much much better being that it was using the shittiest manifold possible.
