Default obd2 powersource

Tapping obd2 connector for a light power source. if the ecu is changed from obd2 to obd1, is the power source still available?

Yes but why are you using the ECU wiring for a power source. I would use something safer like the cigarette lighter or something that is fused.

light power source are the gps trackers. hardwired to a power source that is necessary. it draws like 400mA @ 12 v. no need for a sig lighter, plus it does not have constant power for tracking when the car is off.

GPS as in relation to anti theft type units? If so then if someone steals your car they will most definitely grab the ECU and engine harness if they strip it down. Just a thought.

Use the 12v constant on your radio... much better choice, IMO.

the radio is a more common source to be tampered with. it is just a question of power when the car is changed from obd2 to obd1 via jumper harness. this is for quick installs for those who want better piece of mind. there are better places to tap for power.

no matter if it is behind the radio, behind the cluster, behind the airbag, or tucked in other spots that are concealed with an antenna, the second they yank the battery, i know where the car is.

I know what you mean... peace of mind. I have an autopage 915 with the C3 cell phone module. That way, if they get past the fence, dog, garage, alarm, and my 12 gauge, I'll still find their ***. Lol.
