B series swap + build for future. Need advice and opinions
Hey HT,
I'm currently working on my car to get her properly running and I've hit alot of snags along the way but will be getting them fixed within the month.
Due to not having alot of info on the maintenance and history of the B16 I'm planning to do another B series swap into my 1990 civic si. I will also be converting to OBD1.
I am thinking of swapping either a GSR, Type r, or B20 vtec. I will be keeping the engine n/a because it would be better for me money wise and so I don't have to worry if I'll blow the motor or run into more issues.
I'm going more towards the B20 vtec because I can use my b16 head and just slap it on a b20 block and just grab a gsr tranny.
The car will be daily driven and tracked once and while. I just want that power when I need it
What do you guys/girls think?
Thanks !

I don't have a large amount of experience with the B20 VTEC hybrid... but this guy does. Hope this helps.

B20vtec for sure. Get rid of those stock pistons and get the stock rods fitted with arp bolts. New obd2 oil pump and the block is done.
If you do a B20 vtec build these are the things you'll want to make sure you have! You must have these to be able to rev to 8+ thousand plus RPM.
-Type R oil pump, water pump, timing belt.
-Arp head studs
-Vtec crank girdle, or you WILL get crank walk and blow your motor.
-New rings, bearings and seals.
-Golden eagle Ls/B20 vtec conversion kit
and you should be set.

^ Started to take note and a list of parts too, Thanks!
So what is mandatory when building a B20?, I have awhile to get parts and to learn more on building this setup to get it done right the first time.

You don't need a girdle. It's nice to have and it's extra security but there are plenty of well-built 2 liters out there that don't have them. You can also use a GS-R crank and rods if you want something that revs smoother.
Use the RS Machine ITR style pistons...tried and true.
