Default y1 vs ys1 questions + b20vtec

ive got a b20vtec in my 90 GS and im pretty sure its built low compression i came across the motor like two years ago traded my bmw cuz my transmission was going, and needed a daily driver. got a White 91 LS with this b20vtec in it and ever since then its had an YS1 LS trans(long geared YS1) on it, and feels like it has absolutely no power as far as compression.

now, ive found a great deal on a b16 y1, but the ratios are not as short as a gsr ys1. should i just hold out and get a GSR ys1 or will a b16 give me a nice gain from a damn LS ys1.

and also, will the pressure plate from my YS1 fit on the y1, because the y1 is the 90-91 small spline but will the 92-93 pressure plate work fine?

one more thing. if i were to do a compression test what would i expect to see for a 8.5:1 or 9:1.

the car runs alright, but not very fast for a b20vtec. put it this way, it runs with my friends obd2 LS with a b16 trans, in an ek hatch. pretty much dead on. the car is just mapped i ordered the ecu from phearable because it was all i could afford at the time, its obd1 throws no codes runs fine except for the tune is not perfect but pulls vtec great all way to 82. (dont know if i have arp bolts or not :x)

Y1s kinda suck, the gearing is ok, but they aren't as strong as a YS1 or hydro tranny. I'd either hold out for a YS1 GS-R tranny, or pickup a hydro B16 or GS-R tranny and swap the guts into your YS1 case.

Pressure plate *I think* is the same, disc obviously isn't though.

Go with the YS1 GSR or B16. The Y1 gears are no longer available from Japan so if you damage one, your whole transmission will be lost. The YS1 uses parts similar to the Hydro B16 and has stronger parts that are readily available. You can also change the FD in your LS YS1 to get more out of it but you will still have RPM drop between gears.
