Default Current LSVTEC BUILD

Here is a cool build im doing at the moment. Nothing TOO crazy.

LS bottom end
LS crank (micro polished)
ACL race bearings
Stock rods(reconditioned) with ARP hardware
Nippon PR3 81.5 mm pistons
OEM P72 oil pump
OEM Water pump
OEM 3 layer head gasket
B16 head (milled/resurfaced)
ITR Valve Train
Crower Stage 2 cams
Golden Eagle Cam gears
Golden eagle LSVTEC conversion Kit

That pretty much says it all.

Pics arent in order, but it will work.

Since he is using the OEM head gasket, The head was sent back to the machine shop. The rear holes on intake side need to be bore to 14mm to fit the dowel pins. The engine would be done, If I would thought that problem out first.

Update when the head gets back.

Should be a lot of fun. Looks great.

OEM valvetrain with aftermarket cams? Won't this pose a problem?

i was wondering how to time one of these. I have a b18a1 block and a b16 head with forged rods and pistons. The car is idling at 2800 rpms and smoking a little. And just a little little bit of oil coming out of the exaught. That could be timing right? i havent ran it cause i need it timed. help?

Great DD build I love these engines built like this but I really would upgrade to Supertech valve train just for safety. This engine will make good power if its allowed to breath.

PLEASE dont waste a nicely built block by skimping out on the head and running OEM parts on aftermarket cams. Dont set yourself up for failure out of the blocks....

After doing some research I found that your exactly right.. oem retainers will not hold up with the aggressiveness of an aftermarket cam etc which will most likely be the skunk2 pro 1's in my case... so i have supertech duel valve springs right now but dont want ti retainers so i plan on selling the supertech springs and picking up duel crower valve springs with crower chromoly retainers. I found it interesting that he is running an itr valvetrain on a stage 2 cam profile... i dont know that cam profile off hand but typically "stage 2's" are aggressive enough to cause some concern i thought.

The most aggressive cam you should ever run on stock ITR valvetrain is something like a Skunk2 Tuner 1.

I'm not sure about the retainers, b/c I'm pretty sure a lot of ppl run OEM retainers with aftermarket cams (correct me if I'm wrong, here), but NEVER OEM springs. Spend the extra $200 or so on the insurance of some good valvesprings.

Ummmm...there is no head modification necessary with the use of conversion dowels.

yup, the conversion dowel pins are two different sizes on each side... waaay easier than trying to modify stuff

edit* using 02-04 rsx type s retainers with the supertech dual valve springs...
