sunroof motor turns on but won't open but a small crack. is it a bad motor or what? common problem?

 

What do you mean the sunroof motor turns "on"? As in you hit the switch and you hear the motor activate yet the sunroof doesn't budge?

If that's the case I'd imagine either the motor is going out or there is some thing roof is binding on. I would maybe nudge the glass with your hand to assist in it opening then once your roof is open check your tracks and clean/lube them. My guess though is the motor is going **** up.

 

Lube the tracks. Possibly they have gone dry.
