you can, but you might pick up engine noise from the power cable. run the power down driver and rca's down passenger. and dont be so lazy!!!!

I have a similar question. See my troubleshooting thread: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=291095 . Could the installer have run the power and RCAs down the same side, and is that why my speakers are picking up interference?

Thanks,
Ben

You can, but I wouldn't. You could definitely end up with distortion.

And what would that distortion or interference sound like?

Never mind on my issues; I just checked, and my RCA and power wires are separate.

it was on carsound.com that richard clark and some other guy tested the RCA and stuff and tried to make noise by putting the RCA next to the power cable, and yet..no noise. heck..if you seen my install..wires are everywhere and the RCA is running next to the power and i don't have any whine. richard said something about the car being magnetic or something and that it would pick up the signal anyways.

Richard says that the entire car is a negative power source...that was his reasoning.

But he and David Navone have gone on to say otherwise...power cable does emit an emf field.

Run them down opposite sides of the car...if they must cross, do it at 90 degree angles. Try running a return ground from the amp to the radio...

ok. No you should not, but obviously you physically can without concern to safety. Anybody who is running power next to rca and not picking up engine noise, actually IS picking up distortion that is possibly inaudiable. Power wires due to the current they move emit an electromagnetic field. Your rca wires try to best sheild this noise by using combinations of twisted pair and other computer network like technologies, this blocks out the EMI but only to a certain extent.

Why take the chance of you actually hearing something? Do the job right the first time and you'll be happier and proud afterwards

yes and no.. some cars are worse.. and it also matters on the setup right guys?? emi or engine noise is much worse when the amp is a 4 channel amp powering component speakers, then a 2 channel or mono block amp being used for a subwoofer.. but to be safe keep them atleast 2 feet away from each other and make sure you have a good ground and also make sure the ground wire is less than 18'' also..
