Crap-Ass Comptech 4-2-1 Didn't Fit!!!
LET ME PLEASE SAY THAT I DON'T THINK THAT COMPTECH IS CRAPPY NOR THEIR HEADER. I WAS PISSED BECAUSE THE HEADER DID NOT FIT AFTER TRYING TWO DIFFERENT HEADERS.
Did anyone else run into this problem with the Comptech 4-2-1 Burnished/Mig welded header for the Type R? I went to fit the damn thing on my car and it was too damn short!
WTF?
I went back and got another one and it too did not fit at all. I checked to make sure it wasn't the GS-R model and sure enough the "GS-R only" model was even shorter than the "ITR/GS-R/LS/RS" header that they sell.
I wanted to run the Comptech and retain the factory ITR cat, but instead I went cheap and got the DC JDM 4-1 in ceramic and I'm getting a 2.5'' CarSound cat on Monday.
In the end I'll probably make more top end and perhaps even midrange, but I'm still curious to see why the 2 Comptech haders I tried didn't fit? I mean they were like 2-3'' too short and the lower bracket was off too.
Any ideas?

Before anybody jumps on me, I had them pull all of the Comptech headers out and all of them were the same length except for the "GS-R only" model.
I understand that the GS-R has a different cat and a shorter a-pipe, so please understand that I wasn't trying to fit a GS-R header on my car.
It just simply did not fit at all.

I didn't have a camera. Trust me I tried 2 different ones that were for the ITR. I had the stock USDM ITR cast-iron ehaust manifold ans A-pipe with the stock ITR cat and a full cat-back exhaust. Everything was just like a stock ITR.
I wish I has pics.
Anyone who knows me knows me to be honest and I assure you guys I would not just pull this to mess around. I really wanted the 4-2-1 Comptech piece but now I have the DC JSM 4-1 in ceramic when I really wanted a stainless header.
Oh well, everything happens for a reason I guess. This way I'll definately make more power with a 2.5'' CarSound cat and the DC JDM 4-1 than I would have with a Comptech 4-2-1 with stock ITR cat.
It's just wierd, that's all.

Give me a phone number and I'll call them if they're open tomorrow (Saturday).
The header ios back at my shop where I work and I won't have access to the part number until then, but I'm going to call NOPI and ask them what part number they sold me.
Sucks for Competech that they just lost a potntial great customer in me. I know you guys are saying it fits perfect but I assure you I and my boss (who's been working on Hondas for over 10 years) both tried to fit it and it simply had a huge f-ing gap between the collector's end and the ITR cat.
I'm still considering their flywheel, but I've now heard that the Fidanza 6.75lb. unit is the same?
Any truth to that?
I hope their damn flywheel fits better than their mig welded header!

I had never seen a Comptech 4-2-1 until a few weeks ago and, are those primaries small or what? Look smaller than stock to me! I was in awe of the way it was consrtucted and made! I am sorry but after seeing that header it gets a big
!
You will love the JDM 4-1 and High Flow Cat! Go with SMSP modded cat, nothing but quality and great service!!

Bob Letoni is the Sales Manager, Shad (who someone mentioned earlier) is like their head R&D guy. Bob is prolly the better one to talk to since Shad is not so easy to get a hold of. I doubt if either of them will be there on Saturday.
I have a lot of Comptech stuff on my car, and I have installed even more. All of their stuff has fit perfectly. I would check with NOPI to make sure you got the proper item.
The Comptech flywheel is 6.75 - 7 lbs. The fidanza is like 9 lbs.
I love Comptech stuff. Don't let this one issue keep from buying other products.

I like Comptech as a company because they do sell quality stuff, but honestly the header looks like poo-poo in some places.
It has what appears to be rusty type spots on the corners of the flange and down near the collector's end. I know I bought the "cheaper" one but come on, it's finish is already worn loking on a few edges.
All the ones I looked at were like this.
???
It's a done deal as far as the header is concerned. They had one shot on my car and neither fit. Here is what the part description on my header box looks like:
COMPTECH Header SS
00-01 GS-R/94-01 LS/RS/GS/Type R
Both ones I test fitted had that same **** on the box. The other type just said 94-99 GS-R and it was even shorter.

Im sure you tried this and I know you already bought the DC header but heres a shot in the dark.
When I put my STOCK ITR header back on to mate with my stock cat and exhaust...it didnt seem to fit. There was a quality 2"'s (maybe more) of gap from the collector to the cat. I was like, WTF??? you got to be kidding me.
Well I bolted the header completely up to the cylinder head which gave it an extra few milimeters to close that gap. Then had my dad push like a **** on the stock cat (we did this in my garage so we were both on our backs under the car). He pushed the stock cat towards the header and sure enough the exhaust hangers allowed enough play so that I could get the 2 bolts started that mate the collector and the cat.
For 30 seconds there I would have put my bank account on th fact there was no way it was going to fit....but sure enough it did.
for what its worth.
Nice pics of the 99x concert btw. Oh and what did u pay for the Comptech piece? You know we carry Comptech and you could have gotten it thru us with your work account.

i used a C-clamp to hold 1 side of the collector/cat together and screwed in the bolts for the other side. you might have to have someone push up on the b-pipe where it bends near the back of the car to get it to line up properly.
Here's what I'm going to do:
Monday I'm going to set the Comptech header next to my stock ITR manifold and I'll see for sure then if there is a difference.
Of all the headers I and my boss have put on I've never seen one with such a crazy-*** gap that actually ended up fitting.
The DC 4-1/Carsound cat combo is my final choice anyways.
Oh well. I'll post what I find just for the guys who don't want to get a bigger cat or testpipe when they get a 2.5'' collector type header.
The value of the Comptech for me WAS a true bolt-on header that I could retain the use of my factory cat.
In the end I'm getting a DC JDM 4-1 AND the Carsound cat for only $50.00 more than I was paying for the least expensive Comptech header for my application.
I still intend on getting the Comptech 6.75lb. flywheel and I liked the idea of sporting a stainless Comptech header, but I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Does anyone know if the JDM or DC header and carsound cat will void any warranty as far as Acura is concerned? That is the only thing holding me back from getting a header set up. I was going to just get the Comptech TIG, but if I can get the JDM or DC and not worry about the dealership hastling me if something goes wrong with the car, I would probably do that. Any takers?
Comptech 4-2-1 ss TIG welded headers fit perfect and did pretty good on the great header test you was high or something
Besides the DC JDM 4-1 did BETTER than the more expensive Comptech anyways.

Get the DC JDM/CarSound cat combo but still KEEP your stock manifold and cat so if your car ever experiences anything that requires warranty work simply bolt up your stock stuff. Very simple really.
Believe me I'll give a full report on how I like the DC/CarSound combo.
What's up Tom I recently installed a DC JDM Spec 4-1 ceramic header with a test pipe on my 01ITR man and it seems like the more I drive the car the more I notice the gains im sure you'll be pleased with your decision on the DC header.. The isssue with comptech I have'nt had any experiance with them before and I was thinking of getting that flywheel too so let me know if there is any truth to what you heard of the flywheel being made by someone else.. Peace man
Sounds like you got the b16 header.
So are you going to run a header with a 2.5" collector to a 2.5" cat to stock exhaust? I was just wondering b/c I am planning on getting a header w/ a 2.5" collector and I was wondering if my Skunk2 exhaust will be too small. Any help is appreciated.
PS I have the tig welded Comptech header on my b16 and I love it.

Don't know if this makes a difference or not, but did anyone else notice that this is a B18C5 swap in a hatchback? Don't know the diffence in length if any at all. I do not own a hatchback or know if the length would be differen't, but could that be it possiby?

That's why I specifically stated that I was running the stock ITR exhaust manifold, A-pipe, and ITR cat.
As far as stock exsaust, it's not. I have the Tanabe Super Racing Medallion exhaust - hence one reason to not run a testpipe. The other being oil consumption.
