94 Civic EX acting strange on revs
Ok, I want to first say, ive looked all over and have found similar problems, but no definate answer. And when I tried to get the answer myself, I ran into the main problem of why I am posting here. I'll begin with this: When I got the car, ofcourse it started and ran fine. I wasn't driving it around a lot, but I still went out and started it and let it warm up once a week. I went to take it for a little drive when the snow went away, and thats where the first problem came in. Around 3k RPM's, it was acting like it was stuttering, I stopped the car, and pushed the gas pedel slowly to see if it was acting up, and at 3K, it was as if it hit a rev limiter. Now when it did that the CEL came on. First time since I owned it, I'm not gonna get into all of everything, but I replaced the fuel filter (it didnt start after that), then had it taken to a shop to change the fuel pump (even though I heard it clearly...), and when they took it there, they said it started fine. I got in and boom, it started better than ever. So after the whole shop thing, I go to start it. It takes a good while to crank over, and after letting it sit for about 30 seconds, I go to back out, and it shuts off, almost like it just died. After letting it sit for a while and warming up, it was "driveable". I didnt get far from the shop, and hit that 3k rpms and it stumbled again, and CEL came back on. After what I paid the shop to "fix" it, Im not going back there. So I told myself I'll do it myself regardless of how long it takes. But this is where the main problem comes in. I started the car, and the CEL is off. I let it warm up, then gave it some gas, and it went up to about 3.3k and the did the limiter thing trowing the code. NOW, everytime I shut the car off, the CEL goes away. And I got really confused when I started it up, and it not only didnt come on, but it was reving up just fine. I really don't get what it could be other than a sensor maybe (many suggested this on here), but there is a few of them, And I dont have the money to start replaceing them all. If I can't check my CEL after shutting it off, is there a way while its running?
Thats the problem, everytime I shut the car off the code goes away. and only comes back on when it hits that 3k rpm range
After checking out threads with similar issues, I ended up going and changing the Map sense, now it has a lot of trouble starting up, and when it did start up, it ran for about 1-2 seconds then just shut right down... Im guessing maybe a vaccum leak? There was stuff in my hanes manual about maybe a intake manifold air leak, but what is a good way to test that? I'm not taking the car to a shop again, Ill just do everything my selff now, but I dont know enough, or have all the needed tools. So any advice would help.
