Default Gsr Hondata Question

Ok i have 96 Gsr thats on a hondata s300 with all options.

I just put new rod bearings in it without pulling the motor and now i am getting a CODE 4. which is a crank position angle.

Just wondering what caused this code. i know the Crank angle sensor is in the distributor but which one is it?

Also have a bad surging of up and down up to 2000 and back down to 800 rpm then it will kill out. i replaced the iacv with a known working one. but i do have a leaking charcoal cannister on the the lid, i need to bypass it or something, but wondering if that would be the cause.

Thanks

on the obd2 motors the crank fluctuation sensor is on the oil pump, not the distributor

no.

on obd 0-1 cars it is in the distributor...
obd2 places it on the snout of the crankshaft between the oilpump and crank pulley

refer to the pic

since you're obd1, its going to be a problem with a sensor in the distributor. obd1 doesn't even look at the ckf sensor at the oil pump.

96 is obd2a.. the conversion harness takes care of re-pinning the correct sensors. you shouldnt even be having a problem. if the ecu sees a code, theres physcially a problem with the sensor @ the oil pump or your wiring harness

thats what i thought too since im running s300 with obd 1 conversion harness didnt think it read that sensor at the crank.

yes you are correct about the obd2a but even if there was a problem with the sensor sensor shouldnt it be reading the one in the dist. not the oil pump? i thought it bypassed that one?

MAKE SURE TO READ.....i did just replace the rod bearings withoug pulling the motor just the oil pan, windtray, and girdle came off thats it. (just want to make sure everyone is clear on that part, that it doesn't have anything to do with it?

he has a ckp issue. that is still in the distributor. it wouldn't even throw a ckf code in hondata/obd1.

no no no, you're not getting it.

OBD2 has NO CKP sensor in the dizzy.... the conversion harness takes the CKP pinout from the oil pump and pins it to the CKP Dizzy input on the obd1 ecu side

exactly and that part is non-serviceable in there if im correct it comes assembled in the dizzy right?

so the obd2a dizzy doesnt have a ckp in the distributor but i thought it did? and also i thought the hondata bypassed that sensor all together? i see what your saying on the ecu pins making it work but i thought it had two ckp sensors?

There's a top dead center sensor and the ckp sensor on the oil pump. I can't remember which one the hondata ignores but if iirc the s300 looks at all the sensors.

there is only one sensor going to my oil pump or mounting on it. think its two wires maybe 3 not sure not looking at it now. but thats it not two sensors.

you're wrong. the obd2 ecu reads the ckf and ckp. here's the distributor pinout for a 99-00 si (which is the same pinout for the integra).

CKF is on the oil pump. CKP is in the dizzy, but the module should be removable iirc

I know the module is removable, however the availability of just that part is unknown to me.

If you have a lifetime warranty take it back. That could be your problem though. Those distributors are normally aftermarket or rebuilt. Nothing works like a true new oem dizzy.

You can change out the sensors in the dizzyits pretty straight forward but everything needs to go back the exact same.. I got a used single cam dizzy and swapped em out.. Two screws hold each sensor in just swap em out
