Default whats the best way to find a short?

my gf has a 94 honda civic her speedo works on occasion but then if u hit a big enough bump it stops working i originally thought it was the VSS but i tested that and it was fine then i thought it was the cluster so i replaced it and still the same problem whats the best way to find a short? if i do a resistance test on the B+ wire going to the speedo it should show OL to ground correct? what kind of number should i be looking for in regards to finding this short? im almost tempted to find where the two wire come from that plug into the speedo cut them and re wire it my self but idk if the wire goes from the VSS to the ecu then to the speedo or what but electrical is not my strong point lol i have the haynes book with the wiring diagrams i just need some advice cuz i hate electrical problem
