This happens only at start up (warm up) and then goes away. When I start my car in the morning and rev it to say 3k and shift to second, the RPM's don't go down, they stay right at that point and sometimes even wanna climb on their own. It will do that in all gears for about the first five miles of the drive and then it will stop. I get to work, the car sits all day, and it's fine.
Next morning, same thing again. Only in the morning, and it stops after a few miles.
Thoughts?

It is likely your fast idle thermal valve needs to be replaced or adjusted. It seems to me when the car is cold, there is WAY too much air flowing through the valve, causing the car to idle at like 3 k. normal idle when it is cold and just started should be more like 2k. if your idle goes back to normal when the car is warm, or it is normal on startup when it is warm out, then the FITV is the problem.

What if I just wanted to replace it as opposed to cleaning it? It looks like it is sold as an entire piece with the throttle body. Is that correct, or am I missing something?
I can't seem to find it online for sale, or even on majestic. It is just shown as the whole unit.
thanks.
Gonna go try and take it apart right now.

You certainly can replace the whole unit, but in most cases, they will need to still be adjusted to work just right. putting a brand new one in will likely be pretty close, but if you are picky then they generally need some adjustment. good luck.
is this a DX or SI? or is it swapped?
take a look at this link https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-crx-ef-civic-1988-1991-3/how-fix-your-idleing-woes-fitv-iacv-2153910/ .. it might help a little. You also should inspect/clean the IACV as that is another common issue.
this is a good page for the IACV.. https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-crx-ef-civic-1988-1991-3/idle-air-control-valve-compatibility-2641623/

I appreciate the quick reply.
Yea, I have replaced the IACV just last year. That fixed the car stalling at idle. This is just a regular old 88 crx si, completely stock. I do not see the FITV anywhere.
I did read that people remove them in warmer climates?? I bought my car from an older gentleman that just did regular maintainance, so I dont see why he would mess with it.

Another thing. Looking at those pictures of the TB that have a hole that says to FITV, I DO NOT have that hole in mine. I have zero holes in there.

How is the FITV listed for a 1991 CRX Si @ hondaautomotiveparts.com (out of R.I.)?
Some of their listings are like Greek -
got it -
36450-PP4-E01 012 001 VALVE ASSY., ELECTRONIC AIR CONTROL (M6A) (DENSO)
$182 !!!!! WTF !!!!!!!!

Well there is your problem.. There is no FITV on the d-series, only a IACV. Usually people with idle issues are running swapped cars, so the default answer is FITV or IACV. I assumed too far that you were running a b swap.
The IACV, though new, can still have clogged screens and cause idle issues, but I have to say that if it is new, it is likely not the answer. Have you messed with the idle set screw on the throttle body? Is the car throwing any CEL at all?
One other thing you can do is check for a bad intake manifold gasket, as that can cause issues. By spraying carb cleaner at the head/manifold interface or around the throttle body/manifold interface, you can find leaks easy that way cause the car would rev up.
Another idea is the TPS sensor, though those rarely if ever go bad, and are a major PITA to replace if they do. you would get a CEL for that issue, however.
the problem is none of these options really explain the problem going away, especially sitting a whole day and not happening again. Is there anything else you have noticed with the issue? is it only on colder days, or hotter days? Is your battery going dead?

That makes me feel better to know that I am not missing it.

Not at all
Is the car throwing any CEL at all?
No CEL

This I will try
Is there anything else you have noticed with the issue? is it only on colder days, or hotter days?
Well, it has not been doing it lately and it has been pretty chilly. So I may say if anything it seems to happen on warmer days.
Is your battery going dead?
Battery is 5 months old. Holds good charge, no problems there.
Another idea is the TPS sensor
I replaced that about a year ago with a used one I bought here. I guess that could be a cause.
I just figure I will accept the small problem from a car that is 23 years old with 300K miles. I can live with it.
