Default OT: Cheap Street Tire?

I am going to need some street tires soon as my RE 730's are almost gone. The tire will be just for the street and I am in Arizona so dry conditions only; wet performance is not a factor.

What do you guys recommend? I want something on the cheaper side, I was thinking Azenis, but they cost $73.00 at Discount Tire, seems like they used ot be cheaper.

Suggestions?

Toyo Proxes FZ4.

Grip?
Tire life?
Cheap?

The longer my street tires last, the better.

That's $73 shipped. They didn't include the shipping before.

Azenis is your best choice for cheap, dry performance tire.

Just dont drive those FZ4's in any kind of rain and you'll be ok!

I still say Kumhos for a cheap, decent tire...

Why not?

If V700s are fine in the rain, I'm sure FZ4s won't be any different.

FZ4's are downright dangerous in the rain...even worse than our terrific stock XGT-V4's, which are also a joke in wet weather.

What specifically makes them so dangerous?

I can't imagine that they could possibly be worse than a R compound tire in the rain.

Actually, my V700s worked pretty damn well in the rain, much to my surprise.

From seeing discussions about them on the boards, to driving on them, to talking to guys who have wrecked with them in the rain...they suck.

I remember a long time ago on HT when a guy by the name of Badboy wrecked his LS, there was a huge discussion about FZ4's and peoples experiences with them in the rain...he wasnt the only guy who slid off the road with them, speed-related or not.

I think all R compounds with enough tread work better than any street tire. Even when they have 1/32 tread left, so long as you don't hit standing water, R's provide excellent grip, so I'm not sure where that comment comes from.

Sounds like your V700s haven't been reduced to only having two grooves in them yet.

Are you using the ECSTAs or the V700s? My only experience is with the standard V700s.

I'm speaking of the Ecsta V700 R-compound.

I hate the FZ4's. My friend has them, and I wanted to see what his wheels looked like on my car (Bronze wheels on Red). Anyway, he let me keep them for a couple days, so I drove on them. I hated the FZ4. I never drove in wet, but the dry handling was terrible I thought.

I'd say look at the Yokohama's... the A520, and the other one I can't remember... damn...

R compounds don't have any grooves to channel water, like other tires.

Isn't a tire's ability to deal with standing water the biggest concern when talking about tires in the rain?

Where did I lose you?

I'm speaking of the Ecsta V700 R-compound.
Maybe the different tread pattern helps wet weather performance. Good info, we may have a new wet weather race tire to replace the A032R.

People crash ITRs with RE010s. It's hard to place all the blame on the tires.

My FZ4s are nice in the rain.

FWIW, I don't think they can compare to the A032R in the wet, though.

My front RE 730's are down to the wear bars, if I rotate them to the back, how much longer do you guys think I got. By the way, I have a track event tommarrow.

Which is why I should've included the word "numerous" in my description of everyone elses experiences.

It could be hard to place blame, but when the tires grip like a slippery toad, which IMO they do in the rain...then its not too difficult

There are two V700s. The new design is the ECSTA V700 while the old design is a V700 Victoracer.

This is about the cheapest 205/50/15 That tire rack has.
I didn't check the speed rating, though!

Kumho's are fine for everyday driving. Just don't expect wicked dry grip from them.

WTH are 711's? Cousins of 712's?
