Did you put new bearings in when you did the swap? Did you use a matched set of 5th gears? New 5th gears? It would be a good idea to replace the input shaft seal, shift shaft seal, and both axle seals when you have the trans open. I would also change the counter and mainshaft top and bottom bearings if its in your budget...especially since you either have a gear whine or bearing whine.

Well. Let's see. It COULD be gear whine rather than bearing noise. If it's bearing noise, it can lead to gear whine down the road if not taken care of.

If you're leaking oil inside the trans housing, you run the risk of getting oil on the clutch. So, you could potentially waste a clutch and need a new one if not addressed now. If this happens, and the tuner's time is wasted, they could charge you - plus, they aren't going to appreciate their wasted time. You also don't know how much is leaking out, so the trans can potentially get run low on oil, leading to gear asperities, etc.

So, you're potentially out a 5th gear, a clutch, and possibly time for a tune that couldn't happen but they had to charge you anyway since your clutch slipped. Think about what you should take care of first.

Sounds like ya already had your mind made up then and none of our opinions will change that.

Unfortunately, we aren't there in person to see how bad the leak is or how bad the sound is eminating from your transmission. So none of us will be able to say exactly what you're looking at in regards to time frame for failure / if it'll make it / etc.

Online transmission diagnosis is like online engine tuning. The engine tuner cannot see if the owner of the car has their mechanical timing set correctly. They cannot determine what is causing Code 8. They cannot read the plugs or perform a leakdown test at their own discretion. It's just not going to do much good over the internet. Find someone locally that you trust and you can see regarding your transmission, and get their opinion.
