93 Del sol si B series transmission problems
Hello honda-tech just wanted to see if u guys can shed some light on this problem before i invest anyways here it is,I have a del sol with a B20VTEC/B16 transmission well a few weeks before i was getting out of work and the car was shifting normally then i noticed that it was going a little hard on 4th but then it went away i continue on driving and i was slowing down to make a turn so i shifted to 3rd and then wiggle the shifter(bad habit lol)and i notice that it had a loose feeling soooo i pull over and started to put it in all gears and wiggle it while in gears and it was getting worst it felt like it was in neutral so i kept driving got home and park the car.Next day i start the car to take it to my mechanic and to my surprise it wouldn't go into 5th and reverse,it is like they weren't there and to shift into 1st and 2nd i have to push the shifter real hard to the left and up.Now my debate is what could it be transmission failure or shift linkage(oh and by the way i DID change the shifter bushings, shifter dust cover, inspected Bi%^$ pin for looseness and everything is good) Any help is appreciated
If you're saying the issue is resolved by moving the shifter around, then check this: go under the car and look at the actual shifter itself(where it goes through the floor), then look just to the rear of the car, but still on the linkage, you will see two bolts and a rubber bushing pushed through the end of the linkage.check this rubber bushing for cracks or splits, make sure those 2 bolts are completely snug, and make sur the shift linkage goes completely through the hole in that bushing.
All three of those will cause youre problem. I replaced my bushing, but didn't put loctite on the bolts, and they backed out about halfway. I could only shift by doing a bunch of weird movements with the shifter. If it isn't a linkage issue, it's in the tranny in the actual shift mechanism, or your fluids.

it sounds like a transmission problem possible like the shift forks inside the tranny are bent or worn. the best way to check that is to remove the tranny and open it up and see what u find the cost of to rebuild it is like buying a another tranny. u may spend to 500-1000 bucks on rebuild.
