If ya got money laying around, and extra wheels while your others are getting powdercoated...Go for it. If you're low on dough, don't have extra wheels like 90% of these rich boys on this site...Paint them. Powdercoating is far superior, but a well-done paint job can't be beat.

And why is this? If prepped right...I gurantee you wouldn't be able to tell the difference from powdercoat to paint. I'm hoping you have experience with what you are referring to, because I do. I have gone both routes, and I find if done right, both can hold up the same. There are some cheese-ball powdercoat jobs, and the same goes for painting. If you prep right with paint, and use a good clear coat, the finish will last years of abuse.

speaking from experience...

Unless you have access to some SERIOUS paint (and i dont mean krylon) spring for powder coating. Unless its done professionally, paint WILL CHIP.

I have a set of 95 gsr's that i am in the process of sandblasting after a krylon paint job went south...

don't waste money on powdercoating. it DOES chip. and when it chips, it chips big. mine chip all the damn time. if you use spray paint meant for painting rims (buy it at autozone) you can get a much better job from a rattle can. you just have to scuff the rims good with a scotchbrite pad and clean them off with laquer thinner after. you can paint with tires still on the rims if you tape off all the rubber. my friend has painted 3 sets of rims about 10 different colors and you can't even tell they were painted. i've painted friend's rims before with the same result. you just gotta spray a coupe light coats so you don't get runs.
