You're putting hood pins on it, right?

i don't think hood pins are necessary for the vis hood.

Hood pins are cheap insurance when you install a lightweight hood.

vis hoods weigh about the same as the stock hood, the vis hood is more of a show piece.

So, does anybody actually make a carbon fiber hood that fits well, and is worth getting b/c of the weight savings? I like the fact that carbon fiber saves weight, but I don't want to put a contrasting body panel on my car. I would rather a company make a bare carbon/kevlar hood without the clear coat, that way I can match it with the color of my Integra and still have a noticable weight difference...

You can paint c/f hoods.

It's hilarious that anyone would buy a carbon fiber hood for anything but weight savings.

And don't tell people buy the vis hoods to save weight.
Do you ever notice that no one ever asks how much the hoods weigh? People are getting these hoods for aesthetics.

Are you sure the VIS CF hood weighs as much as the stock. If my faulty memory serves me correctly -- I was thinking th eVIS hood weighed 12-14 lbs and the stock hood 35-45 lbs. Which would of course be a weight savings.

On a side note I was at a shop that had an APC hood (looked good, but it was new, never installed and just sitting around, no idea how the fitment was), I would swear it weighed 6-9 lbs, light as hell. Not recommeding anyone buy one, just commenting on weight.

hehe

[e]my hood was custom made and most every hole on the brackets and hoodlatch needed to be slotted, and the hood still rose up on the passenger side. As I understand the hoods ppl are buying these days fit pretty good? No modifactions needed?

Let us know how it turns out.

VIS is known to make some well fitting cf hoods. Nothing like some of the bodykits that they sell. Any carbon fiber hood should be lighter than a stock hood since its made out of fiberglass and carbon fiber. The lightest carbon fiber hoods that I have seen and held were Sunny Styling hoods. Have you ever looked at your cf hood while going 100+ mph? It shakes around alot and hood pins are the only way to keep it from slamming into your windshield. One of the cf hoods I would trust without needing hood pins would be a kaminari one. If you were going to buy a carbon fiber hood and plan on painting it you can save some money but getting a full fiberglass piece. APC hoods are most likely made by experienced carbon fiber hood makers and they make a killing from it for selling them at $500 and more.

If people are interested I can set up a group buy type deal for VIS, sunny styling, kaminari, and fiberglass hoods.

I had a jdmhonaparts.com hood and it only weighed 6 pounds. fitment wasnt all that good but it was light as hell.

Yeah, a place near me that sells performance parts at a great price (usually) wanted $549 for the APC hood. Do not know that I would trust their stuff for any price.

Wow yet another know it all. Actually the VIS hood is about 7-10lbs lighter then the stock hood. A friend has a VIS hood on his R with a JDM front. We weighted his stock hood and his VIS hood (which is painted) and the difference was 7lbs. And thats with paint on the VIS hood so a 10lbs loss over stock is possible if you don't paint it. And yes the fitment is good, however the VIS hood tend to bow some so it sometimes wont fit perfectly flush. And yes its extreamly strong, however at a cost of around 5lbs extra over say a spoon hood.

But to correct what Mr. know it all said, the VIS hood are around 7-10lbs (pending if you paint it or not) lighter then the stock hood. FYI Oh yeah the weight test was done on a shipping scale which is accurate to .5lbs.

Why do people post such incorrect BS? To get another post # to this post count? hmm....

i do not have a vis hood, but that is what ive from various vis hood owners on this board. excuse me for trying to help.

by the way, thank you for putting me down, what's the purpose of that? You think your a tough guy after saying that? If you look at my profile, Im not a post ***** and honestly, I doubt I know as much as you, but seriously people like you ruin the boards.. try cheering up for a change.

As I said, that is something I heard from many people on this board that the VIS hood is not much lighter than stock. Well, excuse me for trying to help.

You said the VIS hood is the same weight as stock and is for looks only. However now your saying you were going off what others have said and I quote "VIS hood is not much lighter than stock." That is in a way. Yes the VIS is probally the heaviest carbon hoods on the market, however they are also the strongest and best looking and fitting hoods on the market with the best price. The VIS is for the record is 7lbs lighter then stock with it painted and 10lbs lighter then stock without it painted. A Spoon hood is 15lbs lighter then stock unpainted as with the Mugen hood. So the VIS is 5lbs heavier then Spoon and Mugen all without paint.

Sorry for attacking you on that. Its just that so many people on here have been posting such false-incorrect crap lately and its not their fault. They have just been reading and hearing what others have been saying, which they too probally heard from someone else.
It was probally miscommunication between what you posted and what I read.
I'm just trying to set the record straight so that others do not spread wrong information. And trust me, I'm probally one of the nicer guys here. I just go after others to make sure the correct information gets out instead of others here who go after people for being off topic, etc...
