Default B16a2 loud knocking/ticking during start up...

When I start my em1, the engine is very loud with ticks and knocks, but silences after only a few seconds... Do you think it's just the oil pump pushing oil to the head (which takes a couple seconds)?

mine did that for awhile. turns out it was my timing. redid it and now doesn't do it anymore
try ignition timing and put it to 16btdc(OEM spec.)

while ur at it take off ur oil pant and clean up the oil picker it will help more oil go to the top faster maybe that's ur problem everything is dried up and ur oil picker is clogged up so when u go to turn on ur car it takes a while for the oil to start flowing hope this helps

Well, what he said makes alot of sense... advanced timing will cause detonation causing a knock. Knock sensor detects is and retards the timing to compensate... makes perfect sense... I'll do the timing belt etc this week and let you know how it turns out.
