Default DC5 type r loosing power

Hi, I just received my 2002 integra dc5 type R from Japan and noticed that when the car is cold, the car has tremendous power. After a few minutes of driving, it start to feel that the car is loosing power. It really looses allot of power. It doesn't pull like it used to be when the car is cold. No cel is on and everything seems to be OK. What could be the problem of this? A friend of mine told me that the cat is blocked and when the cat becomes hot, it won't let air pass thru like it should. The car is completely stock, only a filter attached to the stock plastic piping, nothing else. Any ideas out there to help?

that is a good thought. Two ways of checking a blocked cat.. a) when they are blocked up they are known to glow red hot so drive it at night and get it up to temp and when you feel you are loosing power check to see if it's got a lot of heat. b) does it smell funny? When they go bad they tend to smell.. some say like rotten eggs.

I would get it up to temp and do a compression test. Best way to see the healthiness of your engine. And post up your numbers.

I did a compression test in the morning when the car is cold and it was 200 across and also did a compression test when hot and compression stayed the same. (Isn't the compression a little bit low?) The gap in the sparkplugs were too open and I gapped them at 26 and it runs better, but still looses a little bit of power when hot. The cat has no ugly smell. Any other ideas?

hard to believe it's that noticeable unless something is seriously wrong. all cars lose some power when they heat up but not more than a few horsepower. how many miles are on your car?

you should pull the cat off and burn it out or have it cleaned.

I'm still curious about this. The car doesn't drive funny it just looses power? No hesitations or misfires or backfires?

You would think if something was wrong with the cat you would be getting a CEL.

kind of curious where you got that information? actually Honda VTEC engines get more horsepower when warmed up when compared to cold....

I have the same problem with mine? Car is fine driving no differance below Vtec but when it goes into Vtec it's dies at 6k then picks back up at 8k revs, inlet mani has being changed, new map sensor, new plugs, Honda oil filter and oil, my last check is a blocked cat so Iam gonna put on a new decat I got and see what happens.
