i have a type r civic cluster its reading 202,345 mileage on it. i want to set it on the correct mileage as the motor is on. how would i be able to adjust it?

Yep, mileage goes with the chassis not the engine. It's not legal, and it will show up in Carfax report.

^ Yep. Matching miles to a chassis is not illegal, to a motor however, it is.

As far as legality is concerned I don't even know if a type-r cluster would be legal no matter what since it doesn't have MPH. I might be wrong. People trip about cluster mileage being altered, as if hundreds of them don't have an SI cluster with lower or wrong mileage or aftermarket steering wheels with no airbag. Aftermarket wheels can yield not only tickets and fines but your insurance company can drop you, and if you get in a wreck you won't be covered, and possibly might die.

Good luck to you...the instruction in the post above will work. The "bar" is sitting in a little clip, you just gently pop it up out of the left side of the clip and the numbers will move freely.

 

do you have to update your mileage when you register every year?

 

I'm not sure how it works over there, but here there's a provincial motor vehicle inspection every year and everytime it's inspected the mileage is recorded, it's also recorded when the car is sold and the new owner registers it.

 

Is it really that big of a deal? I mean for real? Ive had 5 different motors in my car and never once thought I would reset it back to 0 each time a I build a new motor. (mine reads 215k). Write it down and keep track of miles that way.

 

^ Yeah if anything I'd keep it matching the chassis. With as much as we swap our motors and constantly replace every part imaginable I don't really think the mileage matters aside from selling the car eventually and that would be based on chassis mileage for the most part and like mentioned above just write down where your mileage is when you did the swap. I don't really care how much mileage I have I plan on keeping my ej8 indefinitely. Rust isn't going to magically appear at a certain mileage and motors aren't going to blow up at a certain mileage. Maintain it, inspect it, and replace stuff when it needs to be replaced.

We really can't tell you how to do that. It's illegal, and you very well could be banned for explaining how to do it. I've seen things in the past about it.

Do a quick Google search, I am sure you'll find something about how to do it.

it's not that hard to do, but you could break or mess the cluster up if you aren't careful when your in there.
The numbers are supposed to move one way, not the other.
