Default A few questions regarding TIG head setup.

I'm running a Miller Diversion 165, and I've been researching around about gas lenses and whatnot. Well, from the information I've found the included torch (LS17) has very little information associated with it, so this has me worried about selecting the correct gas lense for it.

So, that said, I found out that Miller has provided four different options for replacement heads. They are all Weldcraft Legacy heads, "9LGC - standard #9 (70 degree angle), 9PLGC - pencil #9, 9FXLGC - #9 flex head, and 17FXLGC - flex #17"

Visual reference.

I had my eye on the #9 flex head. Anyone using this torch or something comparable to it that could give me some feedback on it?

Also, I had a question about the gas lenses. It seems like you buy them for the size tungsten you are going to use, so does this eliminate the need for a collet and collet body?

I know this all seems a little overkill just to simply switch to gas lense, but the torch head really isn't all that expensive and if it's worth it, why not?

I own a syncowave 180 sd im no pro tig welder but ill roll out some coins. I have a flex head #9 and mine was a little pricey but u def have more range over where u put the tungsten. i guess it really depends on what your welding but i find it to be the torch i would rather use other then the stationary handle. Hope that helps

I use a 9 series Flex head from CK. It a lot nicer then my old 17 weldcraft. I like it more because the use of smaller parts in the head. The 17's use a bulkier package. Below is a comparison between the two, both using a #8 cup.

Yepp i got basiclly the same setup with mine. I also have a tungsten 1/2" cap instead of the short/long extension caps that can be used ,also helps alot with getting in those tight places.

That's pretty much what I was looking for thank you. The "stock" torch isn't bad or anything, but I would like something a little more versatile and I see a LOT of people using those flex heads. I think I'm sold.

Anyone have an answer for my gas lense questions?

the gas lens is the collet body, and then you still put a collet in to tighten down the tungsten.

I get mine from here, http://cgi.ebay.com/45V26-3-32-gas-l...#ht_2455wt_907 scroll down for their part number chart.
