Default What is the difference between these two rack and pinions?

I have a 1998 Honda Civic 4 DR EX and saw these on CFLHONDA. Besides price why the difference? One says something about w/gx? Not sure what that is. Thanks

I got the part numbers from Majestic. Anyone cheaper than CFLHonda???

Majestic shows that A54 may be discontinued (at least on their site)?

The second one is a new revision. They should be more or less the same.

Its almost like a $100 difference? So A53 is the older one but costs more than A54, the newer one? Or is A53 the newer one? Any comments on which one to get? Hell the original one has lasted 13 years!!! Kind of on a budget, but don't want to get a shitty part and have to tear the whole freaking thing back out! Thanks again!

What do they generally do in a revision???

A54 is the newer one. Sometimes parts came from a different supplier, sometimes honda modified something because the original had a design flaw.

So, what do you think? Is the newer one worth the $100 more? I'm really not sure and would appreciate an expert opinion. Thanks again!

I take that back, so you are saying A53 is he older one? Than that one is $100 more. Looks like I'll be going with the cheaper newer one. Why would a newer version be cheaper??????

Depends on who has the contract with Honda. I bought rear shock assemblies from Honda awhile back @ $58 each and now they are $250 EACH. Suppliers make all the difference in terms of price.

I would go with the cheaper option, after all it's still OEM Honda so just because it's cheaper does NOT mean it's of less quality as stated why above.

The expensive springs normally come from Showa (so do P/S racks actually) The cheaper stuff comes from NHK spring.

Dunno yet, I just bought some NHK springs because they were about half the price of the Showa springs, I haven't put them on yet. I wouldn't be too concerned with the rack, I'm a little more concerned with the springs, Showa's been around since 1938 and they started out making aircraft landing gear, they're very good at what they do. Just checked NHK spring though, they've been around since 1939 so I suspect they have a pretty good handle on making springs by now.

I have no idea who's making the newer racks, if it's Showa or another company. I wouldn't be worried though, Honda doesn't normally sell much junk.

Exactly, that was my point. Even though some manufacturers are "better" overall the quality of Honda parts (regardless of the manufacturer) is superb and either way is still backed by the 12/12 warranty on new parts or 36/36 on re-manufactured units.

What is the 12/12 warranty? 12 Months or 12K miles? Why would remand have a better warranty (it seems that way)?

12 months parts and labour IIRC. Warranty doesn't always apply if the part isn't installed by a honda technician.
