***Cost to build a 1.6 single cam turbo???***
I'm stuck on whether to do a gsr swap into an eg or just buy a 1.6 vtec motor and build the bottom and go forced induction. Does anybody have experience to how much the build will cost on a rebuild of a 1.6single cam. I want 9.1:1 forged pistons and rods, factory head gasket, 3 angle valve, port and polish. Then probably apexi ball-bearing turbo kit or f-max... Thanks to does who reply.
eagle rods and pistons for about $900 if your rebuilding the rest of the stuff figure another $200. I will throw this out incase your local.. My shop is looking to build an ac compatable d series manifold. If you volunteer your car your will be free. We can also do the rest of the kit for you if you like.. A stock 1.6 vtec with turbo will kill a gsr engine.
Pistons and rods alone will run you around $800 +/-, sleeve work is another $6-900 depending on who does it, or you can run the BG route but your sleeves will be susceptible to stress failure. Expect to pay roughly $1500-2000 for bottom end work + assembly. It's alot of money, but if done right that bottom end will stand up to 500+whp all day.
Head work get's VERY expensive, the guy building my D16 was quoting me around $2800 for the headwork alone!!!
Granted this guy was kinda going off the deep end with custom intakes and external oil pumps and whatnot, but he's a VERY good builder.. Just to kick it off, go with a basic PnP, open up the runners a little and the manifold, larger TB and toss it on there, start working on getting a good turbo setup from there on out.

The money for a ported head/valve job would be better spent on sleeves. I have a ported SOHC head but when I think that I spent around $600-700 getting it done I kick myself because I should have built my bottom end instead.
yeah there's definately alot of things to do when going FI. So i'm keeping it really basic. built bottom, a little head work, ignition, fuel, radiator, fuel pump. I've got a 4-5g budget that I'm trying to sick with. If the cost of the build up is more than a gsr swap, I'll probably just do the swap.
I'm probably not going to resleeve, probably just run the newformz blockguard. I figure with the lower compression and moderate boost my factory sleeves should be fine. What do ya'll think.

Damn $2800,is he casting you a brand new head?

... my .02 cents :
... first of all, get a ride in a gsr eg... then get a ride in a turbo sohc... and decide what you like better... make sure that you ride in a car that has a similar setup to the one you want to do...
... if it was me, this is what i would do... get turbopanda's bottom end setup (https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=267641)... and boost ~1bar... all in total, if you shop around... it shouldnt cost you more than $2500 for the whole setup (turbo, manifold, wastegate, intercooler, bov, piping, oil lines, standalone) ... and save the rest of the $$$ for your next project
