So right now I have an SI intake on my B18B1 and I'm looking to upgrade to a cold air intake or a short ram. Does the intake go by what engine you have? Or does it matter. Because some of them say they will only go on an Si and such.

I'm looking at getting a Weapon R if I get a short ram or a AEM if I get a CAI.

Anyone have any input?

 

Get whatever brand cai that fits your chassis with your swap and get a bpi velocity stack and k&n air filter.

 

Keep the stock Si intake.

 

It seems like its so restrictive though. CAI's look like they would flow so much better. Anyone have any dyno numbers comparing the two?

 

+1 for keeping the Si intake. The gains will be unnoticeable, I can guarantee that. They will make your car louder as well. I would just use a drop in K&N and call it a day. CAI's and short rams will make your engine more noisy, which to most is undesirable. Some people like the sound, but many do not. Some quick research will also show you that short ram's do more harm than good.

 

I would keep the si intake and get a drop in k&n also...doesn't make much of a difference w/ short ram/cold air...I actually advise against a cold air, only due to rain/puddles. I have a short ram right now and am actually looking for a stock intake w/ box. Going back to oem.

 

If it rains pretty often in the summer where your at don't get a CAI it will suck the water into your motor. Short ram is really the way to go. Any short ram even generic..its just piping.

 

they are all the same, a tube with a filter on the end.
stay away from the cold air yibber yabber.

example: pucker your lips and suck air into your lungs...
now put a straw in your mouth and do it again.

much easier without the stupid straw/cold air pipe.

if you must have cold air. route a dryer hose from the front of your car, ending in front of your air filament.

 

I had an AEM on my ej1 and my EM1 for 5 years in NY state and never really worried about water. Just let your foot of the pedal if your going thru that deep of water. If your really worried about it, get the pwjdm or yowaii carbon fiber whale dick. They are dynod to be the best intakes and you dont have to worry about hydrolock. You can also get a velocity stack for them too. Thats the route I would go if I wasnt boosted now

 

I don't think most realize that a simple K&N is as effective as using some other type of intake system. I say stay with the stock air box, but it sounds like yours is already gone.

 

stay away from cold air? cold air will out perform short ram any day hands down!

 

i have the aem v2 cold air and that intake is da bomb! if you're scared about water being sucked up get a bypass valve. cold air will out perform short ram anyday. the colder the air the more power you'll produce. short ram will give you better throttle response but performance wise>>>>crap! and short ram makes your car loud! my intake is quiet until vtec then it roars! invest in aem or injen.

 

Yeah and I hope your cold air also sucks up all kinds of dirt/mudd and whatever nasty **** if it is your daily.

 

a tuned length short ram with a velocity stack will beat any CAI all day long save for the V2. it has been proven many many many times on here. go look in the NA section you'll find it.

unlesss your completely submerge it you won't hydrolock or get dirt or mud in it(where are you putting this thing?)

I had an AEM cold air...traded it for a PWJdm whale *****...love it! nice sound and performance is nice as well.

 

worst intake ever^^ you definately went down in performance.

AEM V2 ,and the like, are tuned for air flow for your motor from the factory.Anything else is just a pipe and a filter.Use window weld to seal up your splash guard,it'll help.

 

Maybe overall top end, but low/mids no. I have both for my car, whale ***** DD and 3" pipe w/ BPi stack for the track. I can honestly say there IS a difference in the 2 and how my motor responds. Now its not a LS, its a 82mm GSR w/ higher compression but needless to say there is a slight difference. This summer I will be doing a dyno comparison of the 2 back to back just to see what its like.
