black smoke from tailpipe??
I did a search on black smoke, read a few archived posts, but none seem to cover what im experiencing.
So heres the deal, i have a 91 integra with a 96 GSR swap. pretty much bone stock, except for 4-1 header, ecu re-tune and full exhaust (no cat). 180 to 185 compression across all cylinders. never overheats.
Heres the problem. it smokes out the tailpipe and even shoots out what looks like black water everywhere, when throttle is pressured. it doesnt smoke ridiculously but it still smokes. it gets smaller as it warms up, but still shoots out black water when over 2000rpm.
What could cause this?? is it because im running no cat? so particles and water from rain just get in the piping maybe? would putting a cat on reduce the particle blowback?
i dont think its the headgasket but i could be wrong. my coolant is always near top. oil never looks green or milky.
Any help would be great.

Black water = condesation in exhaust, mixes with the carbon deposits on your exhaust pipe. I don't know anything about black smoke though...You sure its not blueish?
yeah im sure its not a headgasket issue. thats sort of what i figured was the problem. so im going to replace all the piping to a smaller 2.25" and add a cat. then if it still smokes then ill rip apart the motor.
thanks for reaffirming one thought

does the car still do it after a 20-30 mile drive ? if not then its probably just condensation in the pipe but if it still does id look at the motor more / if car runs good i wouldnt bother changing the exhaust out i got 3 inch no cat and my gsr dont do that
Black/rich mixture, Blue/oil, White/coolant...
If you're still seeing black smoke when it's up to temp, something is making it run rich...
A previous poster mentioned water, and that is a normal part of combustion (CO2/Water) that condenses until the exhaust system is up to temp; at which point, it comes out as vapor rather than droplets.
Re-check the tune if you see black smoke at operating temps.

My gsr did the same thing prob has to do with bad valve seals/guides, and or piston rings. Mine did this on a complete rebuild with new valve seals turned out to have bad exhaust guides allowing blow by therfore coating the exhaudt piping in oil, over night condesation breaks down the oil and shoots on your back bumper, if you cant afford an entire rebuild, then just take the head to a reputable machine shop to have a complete head job done, good luck.
thanks for the replies, it does need to be driven for 50 miles. its been driven 47 miles in like 6 months lol. i just got my car situation figured out so in a week ill be able to drive it legally. it probably does need a rebuild eventually. i guess im going to just take it as it comes for a bit unless it dramatically gets worse. gotta save for the complete rebuild.

Ya I mean might as well go all out or nothing burning a little oil wont hurt unless you dont check your oil regularly, as for the crap on your bumper that can be annoying, but it is what it is good luck with your build
yeah ima be on top of it for awhile till i can trust it, as far as oil is concerned. i gotta take it slow on this build. i tend to get carried away and **** lol. thanks again for the replies.
