okay i was gonna do my timing. i slipped my belt off my cams. and then i had my cams at tdc. i was going to attempt to slipp my belt back on without loosening the belt. i couldnt slip my belt on. then i realize my crank pulley wasnt not lined up with the mark on the bottom plastic piece. and i cranked the crank counter clock wise and i realized when i did that my belt got shorter, and now it wont even reach my cams. wat can i do to fix this problem.???

Have you loosened the bolt on the tensioner?

You will have to do that to slide the belt back on.

 

It doesn't matter if the cam gears are at TDC...if the crank pulley is not correc, it won't crank. Make sure the crank pulley is aligned, then work your way to the cam gears. Don't work backwards.

Can someone answer my question? Can I loosen an re tighten the belt without taking off the bottom cover ?

 

just put the crank back at TDC, loosen the tensioner bolt, slip the belt over the cams while making sure they too are at TDC, re-tension the belt, tighten the tensioner bolt and you're done.

MAKE SURE NOT TO SPIN THE CRANK ALL THE WAY AROUND CUZ U WILL BEND VALVES.

 

Where was the mark on the crank pulley when the cams were at "TDC", ie, how far away from the TDC mark was the crank pulley? A few degrees? 180 degrees?

We can't answer the first question without trying to figure out if you're at risk of bending valves.
Well, we could, but it wouldn't be very sporting of us.

Ok line the crank at TDC along with the camshafts.
Then put the timing belt on starting at the crank, to the tensioner and water pump,
and to the intake cam, then exhaust cam last. Then move the crank 3 teeth back COUNTER clockwise (never go clockwise when adjusting). then just tighten the tensioner and line everything back up to tdc.

P.S. When you take the timing belt off without loosening the tensioner, its pretty impossible to get it back on, and could risk damaging the belt if you try.

Okay I Did my timing today and now it still won't start. When I went to start the car everything turned then stop then turned again. Does this mean I bent m valves?

Was your #1 cylinder at tdc (one furthest from dizzy).
You can check by putting everything at tdc, then pull the #1 spark plug out, and put a ling screwdriver in there. If you dont have 1, look in the hole and see if you could see the piston at the very top.

 

what happens if its not at the top? when i try to start my car.. its going to start then it stops then there is this click click click sound then it sounds like it wants to start again

 

o yeah my crank pulley is a unorthodox. i thought there is supppose to be 3 timing marks on there but i only have two.. the two marks are about half an inch away from each other but i cant find the third mark..

Well if its not, you could have possibly bent valves.
Depending on how many teeth ur off timing.
I think if its around 3 or 4, you should be fine.
But if its more than that, i would be worried.

You have to pull the harmonic balancer off. Basically, redo the timing belt. Pull apart the timing belt cover, harmonic balancer, ac/ps needs to be out of the way, and just do it from scratch.
