Default Stock OEM 98-01 GSR Air Intake installation

When I bought my teg it came with a short ram air intake. However, I want to put the car back to 'stock' form. Call me stupid, but I really like the simplicity of a clean OEM look. I'll be getting the engine resprayed along with a mild tuck.

I've been searching and can not come with an answer or installation guide to my problem. In order for me to put the OEM air intake do I need the resonator? Obviously I no longer have it since I was on a short ram, but I've been looking at certain images and it seems like I'll need it. I don't see why I though considering it's like running a short ram but with a box covering the filter. I know I know it's not the same, but in a sense it's close to it.

Also for the filter box to actually sit on the bay, is there a sepcific box holder/clamp I need to purchase?

Thanks for any input/help.

No, you don't need the resonator.

not my ebay auction, but it has decent pics...

You can see that the airbox has tabs that bolt into your engine bay. All you need is the airbox and intake arm. Also there is a hard pipe going from the valve cover breather to the intake arm (not shown in the ebay auction). You may or may not still have that floating around in your engine bay.

Hope this helps.

Sweet, just the answer I needed. In that picture you posted what's that 'J' looking hose on the intake arm? Do I need that? I'm looking at the pictures on acuraoemparts.com and notice that particular part is not included in the Arm, and they don't have it as an option to purchase. Therefore will leave me a with a 'hole' on that area of the arm. Anything I can do about that?

Also you mentioned something about a 'hard pipe', If I DON'T have that in my bay anymore would I have to purchase that or no?

I appreciate everyones help.

parts diagram

The hard pipe for the valve cover breather is part #8. Usually if you have an aftermarket short ram intake, you have a hose going to the valve cover breather. Part #8 is the stock equivalent.

another diagram

In that pic, part #14 is the "J" looking thing you were talking about. It's just there to cancel out noise. If you find a used one, it'll probably come with it. And I think some stock intakes don't have it (type-r or later year GS-Rs? not 100% sure though). Hope that helps.

Remember that the hard pipe #8 is actually 2 pipes together, with the other pipe carrying coolant. You probably have it in your bay still.

Also that #14 piece is useless. I've been running the stock air box and intake arm with a K&N filter for nearly 10 years now, and I just stuck a Mobil1 oil cap in the hole (top side facing the inside of the arm) and tightened the clamp. Been there ever since. Mobil1 quart oil caps used to be an exact fit (around 1 1/2" diameter), not sure if they've changed the design since 2001 or not.

Also I do not have the resonator in the fender. Instead I have a pipe and a couple fittings running down behind the turn signal. This was known as OG H-T user BSQ's "DIY Icebox mod" since it was pretty much the same as the old Comptech Icebox intake system.

Great, so what I'm gathering is that I just need the arm/box/filter and the piece that hold the box in the bay, sweet. Btw the "J" shape tube I mentioned is part #15 on the second diagram not #14.

Thanks for the help. Hopefully someone else will find this useful.

Ps: I do have the hard pipe, I just went to check. lol

#15, that U-shaped tube? That looks like the part for a B18B engine intake tube, or possibly ITR.

Just making sure you indeed have a GS-R air intake tube, because an LS one either wouldn't fit at all, or the fit would be all screwed up.
