i own a 99 civic si wit a b16a2 motor in it all stock it has 210,000 miles and the last time i replaced the clutch i noticed that my rear main seal was leaking.... i lose on average.... anywhere from a qt of oil every 5,000 miles but its still a problem that i have id like to rebuild the motor its my daily driver..... all im asking is for some professional help on the situation.... i need to know how to go about replacing the rear main seal....

 

You don't have to rebuild the motor to replace the rear main...

 

but you do have to remove the motor

 

You need to drop the transmission and remove the clutch and flywheel to access the rear seal.

 

i understand that i have to either a)pull the motor or b) pull the tranny.... im just wanting to know how hard is it to replace just the rear main seal everything else ive done before (swap out clutch) because the last clutch i put in i seen this.... need i mind you this is a daily ''highway driver" mild racing at 200k

ive replaced the oil pain gasket it was also leaking and the i still was using oil and then bam clutch went out.... pulled the tranny and the clutch was covered in oil and burnt up then i pulled it all off and bam the seal looked like that and oil was all over inside the housing of the tranny now the reasoning for me asking about rebuilding my motor is because it now has 210k on it just scared ima throw a bearing or some **** ya know.... this is my only car and ima broke *** college kid for another 2 yrs and you guys on here would know more than these wanna be tuners that run around salina, kansas ya know
