92 accord, pops out of gear
hey all, my first post, been lurking for a while
So I have been wondering if this is a transmission problem, or linkage. I've had the trans off before to replace the clutch, so replacing it would be familiar to me. Linkage, I have no idea.
Details: Pops out of first gear once every couple of days, usually accompanied by a "bang". Third gear pops out occasionally also, but quietly. This has been going on for a few months now. No grinding. I deliver pizza 5 days a week, so it gets heavy usage, and I wouldn't be too surprised if it was finally starting to fail. Been driving it for a long time. Let me know if you need anymore info, thanks.

That crossed my mind also. But I did the clutch 1.5 years ago and drained and refilled it. I have been thinking maybe there is a really slow leak or something, so I'll check it to be sure.
So I remember the repair manual saying that it takes the same engine oil that goes in the engine. Any suggestions on what brand/kind I should be putting in there? Thanks for the reply

yea, i thought about the linkage too, like it says in my op. The thing is, I know absolutely nothing about linkage, and I would imagine that would be costly in labor. If it's a linkage problem, I'm probably going to leave it be. I'm just concerned about it being a trans problem, and what causes it. If I can find a cheap trans, I can handle that myself. It was surprisingly light, easier to take out than I thought. I just gave it the old "lower it on my chest and roll over technique" lol. the input is appreciated, any more would be nice.
I'm sick right now, so unfortunately can't check the fluid atm. Filling it is a pain, it needs to be funneled from above the engine. In order to check it, it has to be drained. Wish there was an easier way.

dude, refilling is easy. Just get some tranny hose and tape it to a funnel. Put the funnel above the tranny in the engine and, from under the wheel well, fish the hose into the filler hole. Just fill until it starts coming out. Make sure there is a gap so that it will leak out when it gets high enough. Also, walmart and pepboys sell hand pumps. I think it's made by Pennzoil.
If you do have enough fluid in there though then it could be the throwout bearing or the synchros are going.

okay, thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'm going to pay a shop labor to find out what the problem is, then fix it myself. My buddy gets parts from NAPA for %50 off.
I know filling the oil isn't too much of a pain, but when your sick it is
