Alright here's the deal. I bought a 88 crx si in november, found out a week and a half ago its got different vin numbers, so i bought another crx sitting in some dudes field. It's a '90 DX.
I wanna swap the Si roof onto the DX, but i don't even know where to start. I've tried searching things like "crx roof swaps" "roof swaps" and haven't really found anything.
Does anyone have any suggestions or advice on how to do it without having it sag, or messing it up real bad? Thanks.
IMO, it's best to have a body shop do these kinds of things. Unless you are an experienced welder/fabricator/designer/ENGINEER, DON'T count on your high school or even college math skills to work correctly...
Look at some of the threads about swaping a glass roof in a crx would be about the same but you need to wire the sunroof motor, this would take lot of time to do this right but can be done

I don't think it's the same at all. My sunroof is all metal.. I was thinking, it was going to be as easy as cutting out the spot welds on both roofs, place it, then tack-weld in place + the wiring and switch. I didn't think it'd be THAT difficult to do.
I mean, it's like; cut out spot welds on both roofs, pick up, carry to other car, put in place, tack-weld, run switch, done.
Because isn't the sunroof motor up by the sunroof anyways? It'd just go with it, wouldn't it?
it would be the same to get the roof out and the same idea to install and would be good for anyone trying to do this to refer to a page where someone has cut there roof out and done an install even if its not a sunroof install......

That's exactly what I did. But I went with no sun roof. You have to remove the windshield and hatch.

Cool.
I was wondering about those support beams in the Si, used to hold the sunroof in place or something along those lines. I have an 89 DX and an 89 Si, swap Si roof onto the DX is the plan. In theory it is easy... as far as wiring goes, would it be easier to strip your interior and swap the whole cabin harness with the Si one?
Iv done this a few times now, except i always put dx roofs on hf and si models. To each their own though kid. Super simple...exactly like turtleman321 posted. Drill out all the spot welds around the perimiter. Then take a putty knife and cut all the chalk away from the front and rear support of your roof where it meets your skin. Replace with your si roof, all the necessary mounting, etc. will be retained but be very careful those roofs bend real easy once they're cut free.
I also want to put a sunroof in my 1988 civic dx,it have the pop out panel roof and i hate it , i have the sunroof assembly and the headliner and all the wiring and switches. But is it possible to cut only for the sunroof panel and not re skinning the whole roof?, does the dx roof have the mounting brackets for the sunroof or i shoud cut them form the junk car also.?? A
