Default Questions/opinons abotu Pioneer speakers

My brother is looking to get some speakers.

He want's to do front and rear speakers. He is looking to spend about $100 a set or less.

The car doesn't have a sub now, but will in the future, also, no four channel amp.

The deck likely will be a Alpine CDA-105. He is dead set on this HU.

Manly looking for opinions on these speakers, or others that are good or better. Keeping with the $100 a set budget.

These are the speakers he was looking at, He was also looking at the pioneer TSA-6874R speakers.
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130TSA6...FBrand|Pioneer

I guess the speakers he needs, are 6x8/6x9

Thanks guys.

I guess it would help it I put what car this is for.

It's a 96 crown vic.

I will be doing the install and I am not looking to do any custom work. I am only interested in direct bolt in speakers.

For the money, you can do much better!!! You just have to know where to look!!!

How about these? $179 from Cructhfield:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-G9aTMDP...pa-692-9i.html

But try buying them here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/2010-INFINITY-KA...#ht_4293wt_905

...just sayin!

PS- This is not your only choice...there are several other $200 sets in the sub $100 range on eBay as well. Oversupply, under-demand...its a beautiful thing sometimes

Huh, I didn't even look for those, becuase I new the price was to much.
But I love infinity!

Trying to stay under the $100 range. We're working with a broke high schoolier budget.

Also, no go on a sub. My dad told him not right now. I'm working on getting a 4 channle in it now. I have a pioneer amp, so we could do 30-40watts rms each. But that is still up in the air at this time.

What I was thinking for trying to find some rear speakers that would give some decent bass, and then something with good mid's and high's in front.

I am thinking the infinity would foot the bill quite well for the front.

You'll be very surprised at the bass a 6*9 will put out my man, not to shabby at all. Sheeeeiiiit, I wish a 6*9 fit in the front door of my Acura!

2 sets of those and he'll be stoked, and they'll hit any range that he needs since its a 3 way!!!

I know what you mean, Ive got 6x9's in the back of my civic. Ther're Cliff designs, but I wasn't happy with the amount of bass.

My brother is the type that cares about noithing but bass. Noithing besides a couple 12's will impress him.

He said he wont do ebay, so the hunt is still on.

"Wont" do ebay???...who "wont" save $80 plus tax if they can? "No thank you, I wouldn't like to save $100 today." HAHAH

Take a look at tigerdirect, they have good deals on speakers....lean toward the Polks! Also less then $100.

Pioneer is pretty good as far as bang for the buck goes, but i'd be a little wary spending under $100/set of ANY speakers if you are looking for decent quality. And if you are looking for bass without subs, you are going to have to shell out for a 4 channel. I dropped $160/set plus an additional $300 for a four channel amplifier, and I am moderately satisfied-- I wish I would have gone all out first time around... If you have the opportunity try to find some component speakers that will fit in place of the 6x8's in the back; many companies make an adapter plate type thing that will allow the installation of 6.5s instead of those nasty 6x8s. A set of 6.5 components will get you some real decent mid range with some killer high end if powered off the four channel amp. If you do get those 6.5 components, I would also recommend you get 2 way 6x9s, that way they emphasize the bass and mid-bass as much as possible.

My word of advice-- if you dont think you'll be happy on a budget, save save save and make your budget bigger. Makes no sense to spend the money twice-- take my word for it.
Cheers,
Jim

This isn't for me, nor my car. My little brother isn't happy with cars radio, and my father asked me to help him out with finding something decent, and at a good price.

With that said, my dad also made it clear to me, I wasn't able to do any modifications to the car, everything must be bolt in. IE, No drilling holes, cutting, ect.

I've got a pioneer 4 channel laying around, so the amp isn't a major concern of mine.

I have been talking with my brother, and he told me he isn't willing to spend anything more the $100 a set. He's 18, thinks he knows it all, and is hard headed.

He isn't willing to do ebay, but he'll buy from amazon, which is odd to me. Seeing as they are basicly they same damn thing.

He found Infinity kappa 6x9, 6x8's for about $90 a set. I looked around and saw them going for any where near $180-200. I am fairly sure this is the route he will go.

I told him about the spacers, and that a 6.5 would be better, but of corse he isn't willing to do it. So, I may just end up buying them for him, and the damn speakers too.

Due to my dad not wanting any modifications done to the car, that rules out runing a componet setup.

I wish I would have gone all out as well. I already replaced my front speakers, and am working on a set for the rear. You live you learn, and my brother may have buy something cheep and learn, sence he isn't really in to listening.

I really apreciate the help and tips guys!

If you look into the Infinity Reference models on Amazon, there are a lot of speakers under $100 a set. They aren't shabby at all. I bought a set for my wifes 92 Vigor when she had it.

Also component speakers don't have to be ruled out. You can surface mount the tweeters on the corners of the dash or the A pillars and tuck the wires out of sight in a seam. Might have to use something sticky like 3M tape or Velcro, but it is a way around the "no modification" rule.

I run infinity reference 6.5's and I am very happy with them.

I would like to get a set for the rear of my car to.

I looked at the ref's and kappa's. My thought is, 30 bucks more, why not get the kappa's.

I look into it, and if I get a chance ill talk to my dad about it.

Thank you.

I've only heard good things about infinity speakers-- but I'd take the advice above and 3M tape the tweeters on the a pillars.

Yea he bought the deck from crutchfeild. $180 shipped with, the dash kit, harness etc. And he bought the speakers from amazon at about $90 a set. He bought the Kappa's.

Depending on how the sound, I may order some for my car.

GL my man.

PS- Does that boat house 6*9's in the front doors? If so you have depth for the Kappas right?

The 6X9's fit in the rear deck lid. According to crutchfeild the 6x8 kappa's will fit in the front doors.

If they don't fit, I guess we'll go from there.

He's more worried he bought the wrong Full speed cable from crutchfeild. lol

Thanks for the help. I will update the thread when I get everything in and working. Everything should be here next friday/saturday, and I am planning to do it that day.

EDIT: yep he bought the wrong one, It says on the page. Does not work with CDA-105. hahah. I wonder if crutchfeild would let him exchange it.

Damn kids (although who am I to talk, we were all there at one point in our lives)

Crutchfield is pretty damn cool about stuff like that in my experience. Legitimately interested in pictures/opinions of how two sets of kappas sound in the Vic. I was completely unaware there has ever been a car released w/ such a large door speaker. WINNER!

I agree totaly. He was just accepted into a university, and he couldn't see the bright red words.

By your correct, we were all there once.

Shortly after posting I called them, and they said there was no problem with swapping them. Just send it to us, we'll switch it and send it right back.
I was hoping to catch it before they shipped, but I missed it by a day.

When he told me the sizes, I had to check for myself. I was suprised.

I am sure he/my dad will want plenty of pics of everything, so I will deffinelty post some.

The deck is in, just not the speakers. They should be going in tomorow.

I am quite unhappy with the dash kit from crutchfeild. It's crap. It doesn't fit right, will not 'clip" in. That and the wires are a little too long, and don't have enough room to clean the HU, which may be the issue with the dash kit. And I have to figure out why the attena is not picking up, when It's plugged in.

Hows your speaker depth looking in those front doors? Gonna pull it off?

PS- Regarding the dash kit...so completely hit n miss from that company... some of them just don't look right at all...is it that ugly? Is the fit impossible?
