2.5rs impreza or fd3s rx7 tt
getting rid of my integra its has 500hp and jdm front end and what not but i want something different ive been in the Honda game for 15 years and want to try something new....ive have 3 hondas stolen many break ins but that comes with the territory in owning a honda...so ive come down to the two cars im looking into getting a 1993 rx7 TT or a 2.5rs i want somthing fast and that can also handle good...just want to know what experiences people have had with them and which route to go any help would be great thanks
well i never had one but my buddy had a 2.5 RS silver sedan 5 speed with intake/header/exhaust / suspension/ wheels etc etc etc and it was a beastly little car, AWD handles AMAZING ( i have an 07 impreza) and it was a very fun car to drive. i've never had a rx7 or even ridden in one so i cant give you a comparison but that is the experience i've had with the subaru, definately a fun car, definately more balsy than a integra/civic/accord with a stock motor and its AWD (and you can just drop in a jdm STi motor and call it good, just sell the original engine to make up for the price)

One of my best friends has a 2.5rs, and we all agree it was quite slow and not much fun to drive at all, until he spent at least $10,000 doing a built/large turbo wrx engine swap.
you shouldn't even be considering this. rx7 hands down. they handle like a dream, they're rwd, and tt rotory ftw. you can retune and spin that engine as high as you want! and if you get real ambitious, put in a quad rotor
i guess it depends on his mods, i dunno i thought my buddies rs was a blast, def. not the fastest thing in the world but still alot of fun in comparison to like a civic or something with those mods

Yes, an 18 year old car known for reliability issues sounds like a wonderful idea.
plus i've heard you need to re-do the factory seals in the engine (ALL of them) before you can safely rap out to super high rpms, which means disassembling the engine which i have no clue about rotaries really, so i guess it would be a either a pain or fun depending on what your looking for
i dont know if your in FL or not but the 2.5RS is gonna be HARD to find, all good subies are either VERY expensive here in FL or HARD to find for a good price, no real need for AWD vehicles in FL but i think an FD is gonna be HARD to find + EXPENSIVE if you do find it, though i have to say that i think that its what you will be happier with considering your use to a 500 hp monster and the rx7s can definately get up there safely and they look **** too
here, take a look at this thread and i think it may influence your decisions =P

i encourage anyone really who is really hardcore into cars to observe that thread (every page - i myself got addicted after the first lol) cause these cars are SO incredible

Stock FD motors are safe up to 9000 rpm. There's really no need to spin a turbo rotary faster than 8000, as you can achieve the power goal you want under 8k, and like any engine, if you build it for 11000+ rpms it will be very unstreetable. Rotaries are easier to rebuild than piston motors too btw...
OP: what are your goals with the car? If you want something hassle free to leave mostly stock run far far away from turbo RX7's. RX7's have a very inefficient stock turbo system, and a poor stock cooling system. Combine that with the fact that rotaries don't like heat, that's how they get the unreliable rep.
However there's nothing else like a turbo rotary, especially in the FD platform. Go single turbo right away, use quality parts and a well known tuner and it will be just as reliable as any other car. If you have your head on straight and want to build a serious car with unlimited potential, go for the RX7...
LOL i agree with ubar jay

i personally own a sti (GD body) and a Rx7 turbo (FC).
the sti makes good power in stock already and awd handles pretty amazing in both dry or rainy condition. however speaking of fun to drive i will def go with the rx7 given the almost 50/50 weight distribution and rwd is absolutely one fun car to drive.
i dont see reliability being a show stopper for rotary as long as you know what you are doing to it. my 2cents

Also you dont come across too many evos these days. Up here in the Northwest where I live subies are practically the only thing on the road and I personally am sick of seeing them, I do love how they drive though. But out of the 2 options the OP has posted, Id get the rx7 simply because they are just bad ***. Dont get me wrong I to love the 2.5rs cause it is a fun awd platform, but the OP already has a newer impreza, correct me if im wrong.
