Is there any easy way to remove the plastic panel from around the trunk release and fuel door release latch on a 05 civic hybrid? Neither release works, whether pulling or pushing down. My husband doesn't want to admit he is afraid the whole car will explode on him if he touches anything. (I have a mechanic friend that told him the batteries carry major voltage and that every little thing is wired to the battery.) Is there a simple and "shock free" way of trying to fix the latch? It looks like the cable that allows the trunk switch to open has slipped off. Seems simple enough, if I can just figure out how to get that plastic panel off without cracking it or leaving marks. I would appreciate any help I can get, I don't know much about cars period, much less hybrids. Thanks!

No problem. It's tough to tell whether or not the cable snapped, or if it's just the stupid rubber bushing that's worn out on the cable. I purchased that fuel door fix when I only had 40,000 miles on my car.
Re: 05 HCH Fuel door and trunk release latch broken
I know this thread is a few years old but I didn't feel the need to make a new one since I have a similar problem. Neither the trunk release or fuel door release works so I checked the cable and this is what I saw.
Obviously it needs to be fixed but my question is will the "fueldoorfix" solve this problem or is the cable too messed up and simply needs to be replaced?
My other question is would this cause the trunk to not latch properly? I cannot get the trunk to stay closed even after adjusting the striker plate. I snapped some pics and was hoping if someone could tell me if everything looks normal.
I don't remember if I took this before or after I adjusted the plate but I believe it was before. This was taken from inside the trunk while I was holding it shut as far down as it would go.
