Default Integra Type R Relief Committee

Hello Type R owners! Recently after reading another members comment I have come up with an idea to help out other R owners in need of some repairs to refresh their R's. I am sure their are plenty of owners out there that need a bumper or two repaired. Or maybe new shocks, paint, or moldings. I have come up with the idea to start a committee that receives donations when needed to help R owners better the condition of their R's. This will be a non profit organization. All donations will be given to applicants based on the committees vote. Money will not be given for things like new wheels, stereo, or anything that does not effect the quality of the vehicle. This is strictly to help our community grow together and help keep our cars in the best condition that we can.

If there is enough people that would be interested in joining the committee and want to donate money or even labor to help our fellow brothers and sisters keep their R's in the best condition they can, then I will set this up. Please feel free to post your opinion and ideas for this.

************************************************** ************************************************** ****** To kick this off right I would like to start off with a donation to the Tsunami relief fund. I would like to give something back before we begin the Integra Type R relief committee.

I really love this idea. I think it is a fantastic way to keep the R alive and well as long as possible. One thing that came to mind as well would be an inventory of free parts. I know there are members out there that have offered free parts to other R owners, and this would be an excellent way to organize that. It is ideas like this that show how great the R community truly is

I like that Mike. I was also thinking some members work or own shops i.e. fab/body/mechanical, they could get in on this with discounts to help. I know my R as well as others are in need of some body work. This idea will bring the community closer together. I really want it to work out.

I'm dig'n this. And I think it's a great thing to donate any amount of $$ to the victims of the recent Japan disaster.

I'm truly not trying to be an @ss here, but if someone can't afford normal maintenance on their Type R, then perhaps they should sell it and buy something a little cheaper and newer.

I'm all for the community part, but that is handled via ITR expo and on forums such as these.

It's not like parts are uber-expensive for the ITR like they are for a E30 M3 or something and it's not like trim pieces and such are difficult to find either as millions of Integras were made.

Fill me in if I'm missing something, but otherwise I just don't see the need. The only thing that would be nice would be a 'secure' website where ITR owners (or ex-owners) could post their extra parts (for free or a reasonable price) and other ITR owners could take advantage. This would keep the folks out with their 92 Civic who want cheap ITR parts and it would help to grow the true community.

Todd your comment is not taken as an insult. I asked for any feedback so thank you. The point is to build a better community through representation. We could have a higher caliber of vehicles in our community. I constantly see Rs that need repair but don't get it. From my experience it is from lack of funds. Why not help our fellow enthusiasts?

The ITRs I see that are beat are usually owned by younger guys that buy inexpensive (sometimes clapped-out) versions because they can't afford anything else.

Or, I've seen folks spend $5K on a high-performance engine build of some sort, something goes wrong--then they can't afford to take care of it or other parts of the car.

For both situations, the owner has gotten in over their heads. I'm definitiely all for preserving the ITR, but I think this would be better served in other ways. I'm sure there are cases out there of owners being hard-pressed to buy maintenance items, but again--priorities need to come into play and the ITR, even in a rotten state, still commands a decent value in the used car market.

IMO I still think some form of secured parts-swap forum for ITR owners only would be a good start. It's the people who drive Civics who are inflating the value of ITR-specific parts and/or buying the good priced ones.

^ this used to exist in better times.

OP, while this post is a good idea it doesn't require as much work as you would think. All you have to do is involve yourself in the community, start going to track events, the little meets, etc.... naturally people become your friend and are always willing to help out, it's extremely easy

I know it did. I've sold quite a few ITR parts and/or given them to folks in the past. Now, seems every time I post a part in the forum sticky, I get 5 guys with Civics PM'ing me. So, I'm now forced to price at market value--and so is everyone else.

I see what you guys are saying. My intentions were to help the guys that you didn't describe. I agree on getting involved which is why I have signed up for my first expo as Luke stated. When I first bought my R this group seemed to be a much tighter group. I just want to help make it like that again.

The group is still very tight, there's just a small rift now with the newer guys and the older guys... that can be easily fixed, but the first step is involving yourself and the rest comes together.

I bought my R a few years ago, and it seemed like a energetic and "tight" group of people on here. I can see what you are talking about. I think forum segregation (due to more localized forums like nwp and model specific forums like itrca) has had alot to do with the spread of planning/info and warm-fuzzy feeling of the community (online at least). It almost makes it feel like there are a bunch of small communities rather than a whole. Steve is right about the community still being there though. Expo 10 was definite proof of that. Expo is definitely the best way to experience what the true ITR community is about. That's more or less just what I've gathered when thinking about how this forum in particular has changed over the past few years.

Do you think there would ever be much of an inventory considering the amount of shell rebuild projects lately? That's a good thing.

OP, I like your idea and can't wait to see if anything comes of it.

Honest opinion is great intention, but in the long run, probably more trouble than its worth. I'm all for helping out other R owners, but any kind of free parts thing would probably be taken advantage of by other honda owners(not necessarily the R guys). I think it would end up being hard to police, and the only people that would benefit would be those in the tight knit group, because they are the ones that everyone knows owns an R. In the end it probably wouldnt expand the community much if any. Just my $.02. I dont even own an R so I dont know why I'm in this forum any way. Best of luck to you guys.
