Engine won't shut off
Please help me diagnose a weird problem. I just finished replacing the engine in my 90 Civic wagon. The car cranked up fine and shut off no problem the first few times. Now, after starting the car, it won't shut back off. When you turn the key all the way off the engine lights stay on and the engine continues to run. I killed the engine by letting out on the clutch while holding the brake and I have to disconnect the battery cable to get the dash lights off. I'm thinking it's maybe a problem with the ignition switch but I wanted to ask here for advice first. Has anyone seen this happen before, and if so what was the problem. Thanks in advance.
It is possible it is the ign. switch, to confirm, start the car, then unplug the ign. switch harness, there are two (2) plugs... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BECK-...Q5fAccessories
If engine stops, replace ign. switch. 94
If engine stops, replace ign. switch. 94
Okay, so I've been investigating a little more and have a new twist to the problem. I have determined that this only happens when the transmission is in reverse. When I select any gear besides reverse (manual transmission) the engine will shut off normally.
