RE: 2004 Honda Element with 81,000 miles (VIN 5J6YH285X4L000786) Throttle Body Failure.
Recently I noticed that my Cruise Control would not maintain any speed setting. In diagnosing the problem I discovered that the plastic receiver on the throttle actuator cable had deteriorated and the actuator cable would no longer attach to the Throttle Body.
I spoke to the Service Manage at Piazza Honda in Limerick, PA about the problem and he stated that the vehicle is no longer under Warranty and I would have to spend about $600.00 to replace the Throttle Body.
In inspecting the Throttle Body I concluded that this erosion of the actuator cable receiver was do to a manufacturing flaw and that deterioration began the moment the engine was started after manufacturer. Not only does the acutator cable maintain the cruise control speed, it also controls the engine speed at idle and the car currently has a diagnostic code P0507 Idle system malfunction.
Honda has known about this problem and that is why the Throttle Body replacement has been upgraded to a "Newer" version (16400-PZD-A11 to 16400-PZD-A13).
I am confident that an inspection during the warranty period would have shown significant erosion of the plastic receiver and a replacement withe the "Newer" Throttle Body would have resolved the issue.
I am therefore requesting that since this part failure began during the Warranty period that Honda should provide parts and labor for its replacement.
Honda replied that they will not help me.
