Default BUYER WARNING: Mfactory Magnetic Oil Plugs

So I went to do my ritual oil change today, seeing as how I am planning a trip to the strip tonight. A few months back i bought a set of Mfactory oil plan plugs, they came highly recommended, nice stuff I thought. Took the plug out today to start, I never get to crazy with these plugs as you can strip them easily, hand tighten only, but today i was greeted with quite a surprise when I removed the plug.

Yes thats right, the threads came off like a spring right off the bolt. I dont even understand...how. I thought threads were milled onto a bolt so this kind of thing cannot happen, but it appears that is not the case here. I do intend to bring this to mfactorys attention directly as this is a HUGE defect, but everyone should beware if you have these things on your oil pan.

threads are rolled into a bolt. but if you weren't using a torque wrench.. who can say.

bolt should always fail before the pan. plug is made of too hard of metal

I've not had a problem with the plugs on my car or any customers cars. What did you torque it to and what was the condition of the trans threads (plug you have pictured is a trans plug, not an oil pan plug)?

trans plug was longer, this was the oil pan plug, my previous two oil changes the threads looked fine, on the pan and on the bolt, it was hand tightened, not torqued, just snugged up enough where it wouldnt back out, it didnt even require any force to remove it the last two times i didnt the oil change, same this time. the threads are just junk, went right back to my factory oil plug

Was there a reason why you haven't contacted us about this yet, before posting on several forums about how bad our product is?

The plug you have is for the tranny. Short = Tranny. Long = Oil Pan, so you have them the wrong way around.

As mentioned above, the threads are rolled, not milled, and this can happen to any aluminum bolt; it's not a manufacturing defect. If we made the bolt out of steel, you may be looking at a new oil pan after a while.

But regardless, it's extremely rare for this to occur after only 3 oil changes (I assume) and we would be more than happy to send you a replacement plug. Just make sure to contact us directly, as we do not check the forums 24/7.

threads are not always rolled. in this application i'm quite sure they would be cut normally. also, aluminum threads are very sensitive when being made and its possible you got a bad one.
its always a very good idea to use a tq wrench when dealing with aluminum bolts though, especially one going through heat cycles.
