Hey ht, just picked up a k24z3 out of an 07 accord with 17k miles on it. It's missing accessories and covers etc. but for what i paid i can't complain. All i did today was bring it home and drain the oil... Deffinitely looking to rebuild, and get a type s head... Should i just leave it alone untill i'm ready to get it machined? Honestly i'm not sure where to start... All i know is it's going to be a long build, and a long time before i get it in my eg. Let me know what ya think! Thanks

did you jus get the engine or the whole setup?

 

You definitely don't want to use that head because the exhaust manifold is built into it, but you could probably sell the exhaust rockers for a decent amount. I would at least put some TSX pistons in the block or go aftermarket and pick up a type S head. There is a lot of info on k20a.org if you haven't checked it out already.

 

As already mentioned ditch that head for one from a K20A2 or K20Z1.
What chassis were you planning to build the engine for?

What's your build status? I'm also going to purchase the K24Z3; but from what I heard the Z3 cannot be interchangeable with the other K's.

 

You are kinda stuck with that series of engine because the integrated exhaust. If you want to keep the head and block just drop in 09 tsx pistons(RL5) and cams(RL5) and get a really good shaped exhaust downpipe. You can make decent power that way. FYI - The head,intake manifold,crank and rods etc are the same on the Z2 Z3 Z6 with the R40 part number. The pistons and cams are the only different parts from your motor and the 09 TSX.

 

You should start with buying the necessary things to get it inside the bay first in m opinion.
