I was watching a Top Gear video about the AMG SL65 Black Series.. Brilliant car! So I was wondering... What does a SL65 Black Series Mercedes-Benz Carbon Fiber OEM Hood ? Well since it's an AMG part I figured I could get pricing from the dealer. So I called Mercedes-Benz in Fullerton California and one in Oregon, it was $55,000.00! It's sure it's high quality dry carbon, but it sure is expensive..

Just for fun I called Lexus to see what the LFA Lexus Carbon Fiber hood would cost, just a mere $16,005.00

Exotic cars sure can be expensive to customize and repair!

I think a Viper hood runs $15k, and it's not even carbon fiber, just really really large.

 

one of my friends here in MD had to order a slk black front bumper cover for a customer and it was like 20k lol

 

i think most of the cost for that goes for producing the tooling to make the hood. Molds can be really ****ing expensive, especially if you want a Mercedes quality part. Also factor in that the Lay Up is done by hand and takes a lot of time, and you can see where the money goes. Also they are spending large money on a tool that wont get used more then 1000 times. . .

 

Seibon should make replica.

 

they probably use way more carbon fiber then seibon or the other companies.

no they probably use less, and spend the money on the molds to get the part perfect. and also its not about how much carbon you use, its about the resin to carbon ratio.

 

That was my thinking too. I understand it's a whole different ball game, but damn. I just can't see myself doing that.

 

I'm gonna have to start making those for 45 grand and undercut these guys...lol
