Default D16Y5 into EG..

I didn't want to make this thread, because I'm SURE it's been covered, but for some reason I couldn't find any solid info

here's the deal-

I came across a D16Y5 for $300, about 130k on it. The motor current in my car (95 hatch) blew its head gasket and who knows what other damage was done, but it was just a d15b7, so it was time to go anyway..

I've done lots of research but didn't find exactly what I was looking for as far as swapping this obd2 motor in my eg.

First off, would I need to buy anything other than what I have? (step down harness, etc)

Also, does anyone have a link to a decent diy for this swap? I know its complicated, but I need this car up and running within the next week or my plans are shot, thats why I'm settling for this motor..

Sorry, I shoulda clarified. The motor is in a buddies garage right now until I pick it up, so info is limited.

I should get the ecu, but I think it's auto. as far as the harness goes, I'm not sure.

I'm pretty sure there was the engine harness still attached the motor, but idk if it was all there or not..

Why does it matter?

well ecu for the y5 will be your obvious if you want it to run like a y5. but you said it might be from an auto, and if its cvt, lol i'm sure your not running one so prolly have to find another ecu for MT if thats what you got. and the harness for the y5 plugs, which can be added/modded to your current harness, since it will have vtech wire and 5 wire o2 sensor.

lol you could just crate it up and send it to mee. still trying to get my hands on one

Would it be able to run on its auto ecu? or on my d15 mt ecu?

is there any way I could bypass wiring up the o2 sensor? I'm under the impression that the obd2 o2 sensors can influence how much fuel is injected.

I wish I wasn't so crunched for time

not positive on the auto/mt working. might run like crap. your right as for the o2 sensors but the y5 is designed for more fuel efficency. so it relies alot more on its 5 wire wideband o2 sensor ($300+ new). I know guys have wired up regular o2's to them, but I am trying to inform you of the y5 and let you determine if you want it to run like designed or just run

I am new to Hondas but I research alot.

im about to do the exact same swap in a 94 lx. i plan to use the distributor from the b7, intake manifold and injectors from b7, y5 alt (mine is shot). i will try a p28 on it before i chip/tune a p06 for the y5. the y5 head is an oddball. has roller rockers, and 3 stage vtec. well see what happens, update the thread as often as you can and ill chime in with whatever info i have.

i think i might have to postpone the swap, and just get a new head gasket for now.. money is extremely tight, and its probably not a good idea to rush and go on vacation in this situation.

thanks anyway guys, but i gotta take the smarter route and hold off on spending money that i barely have.

here's some info tho
