95 Civic Engine Block. How are the cylinders suppose to be?
I have my engine apart since I'm doing a H/G install and figured I might as well do almost everything else while I'm at it. So after removing what I could I was cleaning up the block and noticed the 3rd cylinder from the left has some scratches in it. I can feel them easily with my finger when running it over. Is this bad? I remember reading that they are suppose to be smooth I think. What's my options if it is bad? Despite not wanting to I can always attempt to remove the block and bring it to the shop. Thanks
If you can feel them it is not good, depending on how deep they are, you may be able to hone them out, replace the rings and you will be good to go. 94
Brought the head to the shop today to get it refinished, surfaced, pressure tested, and new valve seals. Told him about the cylinder (2) and he said if there is no evidence of oil on the plugs, everything should still be fine despite the scratch.
Also I figured out how it even happened. Turns out the head has been blown a few times he says, and you could see a few tiny holes due to a spark plug blowing (got the engine from a junkyard), so some of the metal went into the piston and I guess gauged itself out. Sucks but I'll most likely fix that as well.
