Default The start of my build.... small build...

I picked up my DC4 about 5 months ago for 2400 bucks, the car wasn't in bad shape when i purchased it other than a dent on the passenger fender and some fugly wheels and tail lights and a leak. after replaceing the valve cover seal the leak was gone. i lost my job about a month after that and that stopped everything, finally 3 months later i got two new jobs the one i am most stoked about is at downs energy here in corona, if you dont know what downs is, we distribute oil, gas and racing fuel to all of socal and employees get plenty of nice benis.:] so now the money is flowing.. sorta... since i started these new jobs i have gotten new tail lights, and wheels, and a cheap cone filter to last me until i get a real intake.
the car the day i brought it home...

first order of buisness was ditching the *** lights and the sunroof visor... pictures of that later on in the post...

member those fuggly tail lights i mentioned.... yeah... no.

i wont even show the wheels because i dont want to cause anyone any harm...

a few months later and i finaly threw out the vato tail lights and got some OEM ls lights..

much better and transformed the look of the whole car....

now it was time for wheels, my original plan was to go with some gold Dr20's but, i found a good deal on some konig heliums that i couldnt pass up and i have to say, they look good on this car... i was very pleased...

other than these few modifications, the car is stock, it didnt come with a stereo that worked so that was actually the first thing i fixed, picked up a kenwood deck and front speakers, infinity rear speakers, polkaudio amp and sub, cause i brother needs his tunes...

a few future mods include a real intake, twin loop muffler, test pipe, ground control coil overs, skunk2 intake manifold, itr style throttle body and way later down the road some skunk2 cams. i will keep this thread posted with any progress i get on the car, thanks for reading!

Man, I'm in the same boat as you. I just picked up a 96 GSR for $2,500. Owner didn't even know what he had. The bad things it had were:
-bad water pump
-valve cover seal
-timing belt frayed
-most of the radiator/coolant and heater hoses were bad
-bad bushings
-leaking shock(driver side) which it is now gone
-excessive negative camber which caused uneven tire wear
Plus others

I would have started work on it since I was getting good financial aid, but last year I ran into some problems. I am 21 and legally am considered dependent of my parents. Well since I have to use their tax info, last year there was an error in my mom's tax forms. Just because of one error on that part I could not qualify anymore. I had about $3000 saved with a possible $5400 for Fall 2010 & Spring 2011 that I would have received and my $1000 from taxes this year. I would have had around $9000 to fix it. Sadly though I had to pay for my classes and books, my job does not cut it for paying college and school expenses on its own, so I had to dip into my reserves.

The worst part about all of this is that I know how to do almost everything on my car, even the most technical things. Then in my auto classes I have access to presses, chain falls, racks, alignment machines, cylinder boring, valve seat grinders, honing, hot tanking and any possible tool at my disposal for free and a staff full of ASE master techs to back me up! I'm still taking my classes but now I have to sit back and watch those students with cash work on their cars. I have only fixed problems my car has already had, haven't even been able to actually work on it.

Oh well, not everything in life is fair. I wont let money keep me down from completing my ASE requirements and my major requirements/transfer requirements.
