Default Built B20 or Type R?

So I have a dilema here I have a stock B20 in my civic right now and debating on weather or not just to build the b20 or just save up and get a Type R swap I already have a gsr trans so I think I would be good with that, so I would just be getting the type R block. I want something thats gonna be fast but yet be reliable and last me a while. My buddy says get a type R and with the right tune it'll be quick and reliable. So I just wanted to ask you hondatech heads for a second opinion any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks hondatech!

Type R.. Reliable, quick, and great for daily driving if your using a gsr tranny..

B20 depends on the builder. You have smart builders who measure everything and makes sure it runs right and then you have shitty builders who just slaps on a vtec head to a b20 block and think that its the fastest thing in the world..

i vote type r ...cause you sound cooler saying you have a type r motor rather than a b20v =p

jk .. i just think type r would be more reliable... rather than slapping on a head on a block that doesnt belong.. just my opinion....im sure if you build any motor regardless b20v or lsv... if you build it right.. it will be reliable...

yea yea I know the question comes off like "WHAT ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?! TYPE AH ALL DAY BRAH" I just wanted a second opinion I wasnt sure if a B20 would be cheaper to do but I also wanted something that was going to last me a few years and run strong. So its looking like the R is the way to go.

B20/vtec would be the cheaper option, and if done properly be just as reliable, and probably have more bottom end power. Your best bet would be to keep the b20 and build a GSR or ITR head for it. That way you can still drive the car while you build the head and prepare your ls/vtec kit. Minimize downtime, Minimize cost, Maximise torque... just makes sense to me

If you dont have any ideas on what to do then you shouldn't go b20 vtec.. this is for the advance builders or people who do lots of research if its their first time. Like I said you have smart builders then you have shitty builders.. dont be a shitty builder. If you want decent power without the type R price then go GSR instead. Great motor too and faster than a b16a

Other ideas you may consider is boosting. Try turbo on a stock ls block instead... Remember the b20 block is basically a bored our b18a/b block. Therefore the cylinder walls are thinner so your more prone to problems.

There isnt that much that goes into an ls/vtec or b20/vtec. If the builder takes their time, does their research, doesnt cut corners, and has some mechanical common sense they will be fine. It would be cheaper, and faster to build a b20/vtec with CTR cams than it would be to buy an ITR.
