Icon6 timing/cel issues

first off, im new here so bear with me...

i have a 91 dx hatch with the stock d15, 5-spd, 250k, etc. i just had to replace the starter and dizzy (done myself) and i properly set the timing with a timing light, when it idles the timing sits right at 18*, where the mfr calls for. problem is that when i give it even a little gas, the timing jumps around everywhere, i cant even follow the notches. and when driving/revving, when i give it too much gas (around 3/4 pedal depression or past 17 mph in 1st), the cel comes on, and after that the car has about a .5 sec delay on throttle response, and the rev limiter kicks in at (im guessing since i dont have a tach) 3500-4000 rpm. it runs great up until that effing cel comes on

any help?

You will need to check which engine code it is. Just pull up the carpet on the passenger side look at the ECU, turn the key to ON and count the red LED blinks on the ECU. Remember long blinks are 10 and short blinks are 1.

when you set the timing you need to complete the circuit for the 2 pin cel connector.( I think maybe different on ef) other wise the computer tries to compensate for the adjustments you are making and you will get an incorrect reading. Google how to set ignition timing on honda.

Efs do have that. It is in the engine bay on the drivers side it should have a yellow cap on it. It is right by the fender and wheel well.

the light on the ecu is blinking 16 times, 16 short flashes, not a long flash and 6 short ones

the engine wont run any different. and like the other dude said its not the 2 pin connector under the dash its under the engine bay. You have to find the right connector then reset your timing. Google it for crying out loud it will tell you exactly what to do. but what I do know Is you did it wrong

I just googled it and yea its the service connector under the dash. Let the car warm up nicey nice. then connect the service connector. then set your timing 16 degrees btc. good luck let us know how u make out. i figured you wont get the cel light after its done properly
